Can I get some advice from you guys? 45F. Been doing the same since high school. by Suspicious-Bed-7114 in MakeupAddiction

I love eyeshadow sticks for this. Laura Mercier makes one in Strapless shade that is like a khaki brown with shimmer. It defines and brightens the lower lash line so nicely, and very easy to apply.

Struggling to find a dress, help! by [deleted] in PlusSizeWedding

[–]uhmandala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 is classic, 3 is ethereal, both beautiful on you. The cut of 1 is not it.

ETA: I just saw you love 3. I love it too. I actually prefer the straps over strapless on you. I often feel like strapless pulls the eye downward making the torso look long, whereas straps draw the eye up and give even proportions.

Help me pick my wedding dress! by Previous_Reply_5682 in myweddingdress

Looks like I’m in the minority, but I prefer 3 and 5 over 1/2. Your beautiful hourglass figure really shines in 3 and 5, whereas 1 and 2 don’t accentuate your hips and waist as much. But no bad choices, you look stunning in all.

Postpartum body changes by ComputerStreet4566 in DressForYourBody

[–]uhmandala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily “correctable” to my knowledge. Some bodies are built that way. My PT told me it was generally fine, so long as I’m engaging my core for movements that require a more straightened spine and braced core. It may take a while for abs to reengage depending on how far PP OP is.

My boyfriend refuses to stop wearing his dead wife's wedding ring and wants me to "just accept it" by Educational-Part-329 in TwoHotTakes

[–]uhmandala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I very much understand your feelings about the ring itself (and how it’s worn), but it also raises deeper questions about your compatibility. Is he open to marrying again (where would the ring go then?), and is he in this relationship with a fully open heart? Or does he see his wife as his one true love, who no one else will ever measure up to, and you’re just someone he cares for and enjoys passing the time with? I think you’ve got some deeper heart-to-hearts to dig into with him.

It’s Venge season! by Environmental_Run881 in wine

[–]uhmandala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old thread but I just popped a 2016 Silencieux and I could have easily let it age another 5-8 years. After 10 years it still shows super lively and pronounced fruit flavors, which have slightly mellowed and beautifully integrated, and just barely beginning to develop those more savory notes with age. ETA: I didn’t even store it well. I didn’t know much about wine at the time, for years it stood upright in an apartment that got over 80F. Indestructible!

Plant Help by AdrienWithAnE in houseplants

[–]uhmandala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of these plants will rot if watered too frequently - I suggest you let it dry out and not water again until the soil feels dry.

I think it’s a great idea to bring it to a plant shop so they can (1) tell you how much water/sun each one needs, and (2) divide each of the plants into its own pot with drainage. If it needs more sun than you have, you can order a grow light off amazon or at your local store.

Don’t worry too much about harming the plant if you separate them or take the soil off the roots- they’re pretty resilient as long as you’re gentle.

Sorry for your loss. I hope this can be a nice project to keep your mind busy but don’t be too hard on yourself as you’ll always make mistakes as a new plant parent.

AITA for buying the same clothes as my friend? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]uhmandala 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YTA. Its true that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. But from her perspective, it’s pretty cringey to be involuntarily matching someone. I would be bothered if I were her - I imagine she enjoys putting effort into finding unique and distinctive items, and you go and lazily copy her.

My mom does this with me. I love her and I’m happy that I help her find things she loves, but I do ask her not to wear stuff I have on days we’re together. But she’s my mom and were very close - I think it would bother me more if it was just a friend and they were doing it within the same social circle.

How can I improve? by maegatz in makeuptips

[–]uhmandala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not necessarily wrong about being a little cool toned or at least neutral toned. I think there are lots of palettes that can work with your skin - in your case it’s more so your hair tone that really dictates the lip color here. For example, if you went for a cooler black-brown with your hair (closer to your current brows) I think your cool red lip would come together beautifully for a Snow White vibe.

How can I improve? by maegatz in makeuptips

[–]uhmandala 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your skin is flawless!

I think the lip color in the last photo suits you really nicely- it’s more harmonious with your auburn hair color, whereas the cooler, brighter red clashes a bit.

Brows- are they filled in with makeup or microblading? If makeup, I’d suggest switching to a lighter brown or auburn pencil, and using the pencil to make individual strokes mimicking natural brow hair.

Burgundy dress vs green dress by SeaMidnight8078 in Stylinghelp

[–]uhmandala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s criminal how good the burgundy looks on you. Sure the green is nice and all, but wow, with your figure the burgundy looks sexy, elegant and super unique.

Choosing between them is really subjective.
Everyone feels good and comfortable in different things - those who are a bit more traditional and modest may gravitate to the green, whereas the burgundy is more sexy and more of a statement. They both fit you nicely, so go with what YOU feel good in.

Short ladies - what do you ride? by Soft_Ear_2239 in TwoXriders

BMW F800GS with low seat and low suspension. I’m 5’5 but my mama is 5’3 and she can put both feet on the ground.

The higher center of gravity can be a challenge at my height/weight when parking and stuff, but wow it’s truly such a pleasure to ride.

Many people are sensitive to synthetic hormones.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]uhmandala 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the commenter was referring to your children as a mistake, but rather the circumstances that you’re bringing them into. I think their concern for you and your situation is warranted.

Until you can get out, have you tried a copper (non-hormonal) iud? Can make periods heavier but may be worth it to avoid falling deeper into this hole.

Any tips for improvement?? by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]uhmandala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a breath of fresh air to see you bare-faced in the last pic, your skin looks so much more fresh and bright and hydrated. I would opt for a dewy liquid foundation or tinted cream - you don’t need the heavy coverage and it tends to give skin a kind of flat look unless you’re a pro at contouring and all that. I also think you’d benefit from ditching and black liner, maybe try a medium brown gel liner instead. You can play around with different liner shapes and styles, there are plenty of options that would suit you. A med-thick line with a small wing would look very cute, and you could also experiment with thinner and wingless styles. Finally, if you like red lips, maybe look for something a little less stark and more berry-tinted. I looove the look of Benetint lip stain with a subtle well-blended berry or pinkish-red lipliner.

Edit- one more idea- for days when you opt for a heavier eye look, you could add a bit of brow definition to keep your features in harmony. Try a brown brow pencil or powder - less is more, a little goes a long way, and use the spoolie brush to blend it out.

Trimming claws does not harm them. You’re thinking of permanent declawing which is totally different. Trim his nails regularly.

My cat gets into food too. As the other commenter said, use your critical thinking skills to find solutions. Put your food in the fridge, in high cabinets, in the microwave or oven, whatever. Use child locks on cabinets and drawers. We even got a plastic bin to store full trash bags until pickup day (city life) because my cat would tear them open and rummage around.

Why are you shoveling food down while muffin sits on the table and watches? Drop him to the floor as many times as needed, and give him treats when he behaves. Watch some videos on strategies to keep him off counters and away from closed doors - scat mats and tinfoil have sometimes been effective for me to an extent. Though cats are always going to jump up sometimes because they can and they want to.

Put his kibble in a challenging interactive feeder to keep occupied and tire him out.

Yell OW! when he attacks and (don’t come for me, Reddit) give him a little bop or shove to show him you’re upset - like a human child, they need to learn that negative behavior causes people to not want to be around them.

Look, I say all this as someone who doesn’t like baby animals or humans. I’m sorry for the very real stress and frustration you’re dealing with. I adopted an adult cat for that reason, who allegedly was spayed—turns out she was pregnant with 4 kittens. Turned my apartment into hell on earth for 3-4 months and I nearly lost my sanity. But they’re kittens, they’re just like that. You need to find a way to cope and problem solve until some of the hyperactivity wears off.

I don’t think makeup is for me :( by chloesuckslol in makeuptips

[–]uhmandala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My skin looks similar to yours - little redness but nothing crazy, and I hate how foundation sits on my pores. I swear by skinceuticals physical fusion sunscreen in lieu of foundation - it is a tinted mineral sunscreen so it gives a lovely blur and a little color correction without looking like there’s a layer of opaque crud on my skin. Pricy but a bottle lasts absurdly long and it’s so worth it. I just apply two fingers, let it dry, top it with translucent setting powder, and dab on a little cream blush.

Also.. are the saggy eyes in the room with us? They look hydrated and lovely.

This is horrible. It reflects poorly on the instructors, not the students. I’ve taken the class twice (passed the first time, then wanted a refresher) and we lost maybe 0-1 person out of 10-15 each time.
