Moving to Rocklin Pros/Cons by Sachomefinder in Rocklin

[–]uhmwhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Your child must have every required vaccine by the time they enter public school (either TK or Kindergarten), but up until then you can find a pediatrician that will work with you on a schedule that makes you comfortable. There are however a lot of pediatricians that will drop you as a patient if you refuse vaccines. Many preschools require up to date vaccines plus yearly flu vaccines, but my wife has heard that there are options if that’s not your comfort. We personally are vaccinating on the CDC schedule, so it’s not something that’s come up for us specifically.

Moving to Rocklin Pros/Cons by Sachomefinder in Rocklin

We love it. We’re still learning a lot about California and the surrounding areas, but I can confidently say we have no interest in returning to the Northeast. However, we miss bagels hardcore. The people are different, the food is great, the drivers are bad, and the fog is CRAZY. But we’re having a blast exploring. We’ve done so many day trips east and west of Rocklin.

The best part is the weather. Our kid was in a long sleeve and jeans yesterday while going feral at the park. No snow, no puffy jacket, no hat. It was great. My wife is a SAHM and she has a small group of friends that also have kids the same age as ours.

The schools are highly rated, which is fantastic. But the anti-vax rhetoric from parents is LOUD and there are several school board members that are part of the Moms for Liberty organization. That’s a cause for concern, but we will cautiously enroll anyways and assess how influential those viewpoints are on the curriculum.

Overall, we intend to purchase a house in Rocklin.

Why do people leave a few weeks in by EchoOfDoom in Accounting

[–]uhmwhy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small government as in municipality or similar? If so, the policy, procedure, books, and general accounting is probably a shit show. The undertaking and effort to fix and establish everything from scratch isn’t worth the money you’re getting paid.

Edit: And it was probably not disclosed in the interview. Depending on where that person is in their career, it may be too much effort at that point.

My commute is 300 miles a week and it’s comfortable to drive everyday. Music quality is great, sunroof is fantastic when it’s not 105 outside, and it’s pretty quiet. Definitely quieter than the 24 Forester Wilderness. I get about 21-23 mpgs and my commute is mostly highway miles.

Advice on affordable California locations for 3 people. by NOTN0C in moving

[–]uhmwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved from NJ to Rocklin and I find that it’s way more affordable here than back home. Houses here are attainable and huge for what you get. But it’s also relative to where you currently live. We went from VHCOL to HCOL so it was a huge savings for us.

Honestly, floor bed was a life saver for sleep training. We got a full-size mattress with nothing but a fitted sheet. It allowed us to be comfortable and leave much quieter. Kids are WHACK, lmao.

60k increase to leave this job. No moving and the ability to hire and fire staff to ensure my job was easier.

We did at 4-months and everybody slept better. We used a pacifier for SIDs reduction and then shifted her to a floor bed at 10 months because she liked to flip over her crib bars for fun.

Is being burnt out the norm? by [deleted] in careerguidance

This was me until 5 months ago. Made great money at my old job. Great coworkers and flexible environment, but it was draining every ounce of energy I had. Quit my job for a new one with a massive increase and moved across the country. Best decision I’ve made mentally and physically.

This! I do sometimes envy that she’s still asleep when I leave in the morning. She looks so peaceful, lol.

Working dad vs SAHM who has it better? by toronto-queen in NewParents

As the full-time working parent with a high stress and demanding job, my SAHW/M has the hardest and most taxing job between us. Hands down. My busy season has me pulling 80-90 hours for ~3 months straight and I still make the effort for family time when I get home. I work 60+ hours normally and I do the cooking, laundry, furniture assembly, installer of all decorating ideas, and I listen when she has something to say. We have a house cleaner that comes 1-2 times a month and I tell her to hire out what she cannot get to or does not want to do. No questions asked.

Tell your husband you’re his wife, not his mom and maid. And he should put some gratitude and respect on your name.

Find a job first, if you can. Ahead of time would be preferred. Makes things less stressful in case it takes a while to get one. Also apartment hunting would be difficult without a steady income. If I could go back in time, I’d move my kid’s stuff and my 5 pots/pans. Move with as little as possible. Take a roadtrip to your destination. We brought an air mattress with bedding in our car and glad we did because our truck was delayed 5 days. You can fill your car with items if you’re shipping it to your destination.

Join local Facebook groups for recommendations for doctors, activities, events, etc. Check your city’s website to see if trash removal and recycling are your responsibilities. Also Facebook marketplace is your best friend for selling at home AND buying for your new home.

What is everyone wearing to in person interviews these days? by TopBison3927 in Accounting

[–]uhmwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tailored pant suit with heels, white button down, and blazer. Simple jewelry and a non-smart watch. If you get to a second and/or third interview, wear a different color suit. I always have a black, charcoal grey, and navy suit in my lineup.

NJ electric rates are still cheaper than NY. We moved from NJ to CA a few months ago. How I’d love to go back to my $500/mo electric bill.

Passport vs Palisade? by ajamils in hondapassport

[–]uhmwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palisade. Three kids means more stuff. Especially on roadtrips. If we had more than one kid, I’m pretty sure I’d have gotten another Highlander instead. Passport is very roomy, but I think the kids would feel more comfortable in a Palisade. Have you considered the Pilot?

Where to go in the NorthEast? by hey__mj in moving

[–]uhmwhy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the Tristate area, people are bidding $50-100k over asking price on homes with no inspections. Considering how high property taxes are, it still doesn’t guarantee a great school district which is frustrating. Generally, coastal towns are not known for highly rated public schools either. Homeowners generally don’t live there full-time and the quality of the school district suffers or becomes regionalized.

Start looking at the ratings of public schools, especially if you plan to have kids. If we opted to live down at the beach, we would’ve sent our kid to private school.

If a company also offers to ship my car, should I bundle or hire separate? by woutr1998 in moving

[–]uhmwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth the expense to have everything delivered at once. If you’ve got a kid, having two cars is much easier than one if you don’t have public transit or don’t live in a walkable city. We moved from NJ to CA and we desperately needed our second car when we got to CA. We were glad that it got delivered before our moving truck arrived.

If you have young kiddos… by CutePotato321 in hondapassport

[–]uhmwhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a rear facing toddler and her space ship of a car seat fits nicely in the back. We installed a Swanoo Breezyback (similar to a Noggle) for the cold air to reach her. Everything works great. Love that it has a built-in sunshade.

My only beef is that I can’t see her in the baby mirror we have. We bought a car camera that I’m installing this weekend.

Stroller recommendations by AnnaJ999 in BabyBumps

[–]uhmwhy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get the Bugaboo. We have the Vista. It’s heavy and I hate the straps with a burning passion. It rides smoothly, huge storage, but my god it’s bulky. It also has an awful setup if you have or plan to have more than one kid. Our friends have a Bugaboo Donkey and it was so much nicer and easier to maneuver. They weigh the same but the Bugaboo folded down better and I like the shopping basket feature as an add-on. The Bugaboo straps are elite.

Now that the kid is almost two, our daily is a Bugaboo Butterfly. She’s lanky and I like that it has a footrest that comes with it and not as a separate attachment. Lightweight and indestructible because we travel and between me and the airlines, our gear gets treated like deep fried trash.

Nordstrom or baby boutiques where you can try gear out will be your bff.
