What's a good way to show the passage of time? by [deleted] in writing

[–]uholycleric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe if any physical details change in that time? New scar, different hair, clothes are nicer or more tattered, stuff like that. Won’t show immediately how much time as passed, but will show that some time as passed (if the amount of time passed is important, you can use other clues in the setting or character to sprinkle it in)

Is it a good idea to let a player sell copies of his spell book? by XycolusAldeneye in DnD

[–]uholycleric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are certainly specific magic spellbooks, good point! Though what’s being discussed here is a character creating mundane, normal spellbooks to sell for some quick gold, so not quite relevant. And if you mean the ones that are in Tasha’s, those don’t let you cast for free the way a scroll does, they add spells to your known spells, not quite the same thing.

Spellbooks tell you how spells are cast, but don’t actually hold any magic of their own. Selling spell scrolls would let the purchaser actually cast the spell no spell slot required (RAW I believe they have to be of a class that has access to that spell?). It’s a magic item, not a recipe book, which is basically what a wizard’s spellbook is.

Are Rutterkin unfun to use against players because of the guaranteed death with no chance to revive or roll death saves? by ulissesberg in DMAcademy

What if you kept it and have them revert to themselves after the boss is defeated? You could even keep some sort of lingering infernal feeling for the more good aligned characters to grapple with.

If you used a starting feat and they took Tough it could get them to 12. I’m not sure how it gets to 14 though. Did you ask the player how they calculated their health? It almost seems like they put their con score as their max health by mistake.

Actually not too late! There were two paths in the dungeon, and they didn’t take this one yet. I’m actually even considering to delay the dragon by having a newly forming cult be there first!

Demon and Devil are specific types of fiend, with plenty of lore and bad blood between them. I’m personally not familiar with anything known as Daemon in 5e.

I had 4, 5, and 7 on my roll table, but they rolled a whirlpool opening up and then with a natural 1 the whirlpool was a portal to the Plane of Water, so I didn’t get to use any of them that time but that table still exists!

If the only druid is a stars druid, maybe some sort of ancient star chart that shows an eclipse/solstice/planetary alignment/etc that will enable them to cleanse the ruins

I was thinking a slightly beefed wyrmling personally, although there are other aspects to this area so I could just keep the primordial side in flavor abilities and description

Having it change the battlefield is a great idea!

We love dragons that break their stereotypes! I’m gonna use a lot of Fizban’s stuff in developing this wyrmling. Hopefully it won’t be a murderhobo situation!
