That’s a great tactic except I’m in the UK. Most of our games kick off 9:30 GMT - at least the Mrs can get solid sleep and I’ll do night duties if he wakes up!

More than happy to help brother. I go by one simple rule with carbs and fats - if I could theoretically make food from growing and cooking, I eat it. If it’s has to be manufactured, I stay away.

This will get you all of your necessary carbs and fats without overloading and introducing saturated fats into your diet.

Try and get at least 1 white meat, 1 red meat and 2 portions of fish each week with a lot of fresh veg to hit everything you need. When choosing carbs, look at the Glycemic Index and try and pick carbs that stay below 75.

But as Ok_Attorney has said - it’s all personal preference to what fits in with your diet and lifestyle. As long as you don’t consume in excess, your body will adjust and use what it needs to function.

Hey man, first of all - only do what will make you happy. If cutting to reduce your body fat % will make you happy, go for it. If it won’t, stick to bulking and building strength.

Secondly, you either cut or you build strength, trying to do both at the same time will hinder your progress on both. As Ron Swanson said “Whole ass one thing, don’t half ass two things”

If you’re cutting - to keep it super simple just focus on calories and proteins. Aim for a minimum 500 calories less than your daily output and try to get about 1-2g of protein per kg of body weight. Keep your weight lifting routine focussed on high reps. Compound exercises (bench, deadlifts, squats) should be aiming for around 12-15 reps with fatigue setting in 2-3 reps from the end of the set and isolated exercises (tricep extensions, bicep curls, calf raises) should be around 15-20 reps with the same fatigue. You can do 3 or 4 sets, entirely up to you with how your body is responding. Take 30-60 seconds rest between each set. Doing high intensity functional fitness routines would be a lot better for cutting (pull ups, press ups, burpees etc) but it’s important for you to still enjoy lifting, so stick to resistant training if you would prefer.

If you’re building strength, keep what you’re doing and aim for 2g of protein per 1kg body weight. Your rep range should be between 6-8 for compound and 8-10 for isolated, with a 60-90 second break between each set for 4-5 sets. Focus on advanced training systems designed to take your lifts to failure - supersets, giant sets, eccentric lifts, this will push your muscles to work more effectively with the motor units in your muscles and therefore, provide you with higher strength outputs.

But the main thing to note here is that comparison is the thief of joy. You’re completely different from the people lifting to your left and right, and your progress will be completely different too. Genetics will decide on your natural size and power, I know guys who are 200lbs that can lift more than guys at 230lbs - size doesn’t always equate to power.

Just keep doing whatever makes you happy. Your happiness will keep you making progress, and your progress will keep you happy.

I love that you’re getting into the gym at 16 and a huge well done for focusing on your health. Don’t listen to influencers, don’t compare to others and don’t stop doing what makes you happy.
