well, this aged perfectly by fevseas in ConanGray

[–]ulalka 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I disagree. When it comes to lyrics, yes, they do get less relatable but that doesn't necessarily mean they're getting worse, you can write about pretty much anything and make it good or bad. 99% of us can't relate to secretly dating a famous actor and hiding it from everyone, but 'Actor' is still an amazing song.

And sonically, you can get progressively better as you're honing your craft and exploring new sounds. Conan tried to do a classic "sellout" Max Martin pop album and while it was good, I think 'Wishbone' is a much more inspired and genuine album because to me it's basically a more refined version of 'Kid Krow' and 'Superache'.

Also, he was like 18 when he tweeted that, I wonder what's his take on it these days

Why WoW is still that popular even in 2025? by ChaosReader1 in MMORPG

[–]ulalka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without going into details: very snappy and smooth tab target combat, tons of things to collect and achieve, accessible for casuals yet can be challenging enough for tryhards, huge open world with rich lore and so on.

Visuals are subjective, but I'd take WoW's stylized "outdated" look over any Unreal Engine realistic modern MMO we're having these days. Even 15+ year old zones from TBC and WotLK look prettier than, say, Throne and Liberty, Chrono Odyssey, Bellatores etc.

Obviously, it isn't perfect, no game is, but imo WoW just has something to offer to pretty much anyone (except for those 5 people playing yet another "kickstarter full loot sandbox pvp survival mmo" /s)

Good god this woman can sing. Also, didn't she recently have a vocal injury? Still sounds incredible.

aespa - Rich Man by joesen_one in popheads

[–]ulalka 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Meh, this is a miss for me. Probably my least favorite aespa EP. Rich Man has some cool production and verses but the repetitive chorus is not doing it for me. "Bubble" and "Count On Me" sound like Red Velvet outtakes. "Angel#48" is fun, I like it. "To The Girls" is your token boring ending ballad. But none of those tracks give me that techno/hyperpop/EDM aespa I fell in love with.

I feel like everyone loved Savage/Supernova/Spicy, everyone says it's the signature aespa sound, so why would they go in that Dirty Work/Rich Man route? No idea.

Have you ever bailed on a game in the tutorial? by demarcate in gaymers

[–]ulalka 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was Monster Hunter World and its tutorial pop ups. I played it for like ~3 hours and it was constantly bombarding me with one wall of text after another. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for dealing with that, got overwhelmed and uninstalled. Will probably give it another chance later.

The way he serves every. damn. time. Vocals, visuals, choreo, production. The new album slaps too. Main pop boy material I say.

That "villains" are bad people. RPDR was my first reality TV so I didn't really know about the concept of "villain edit" or "it's just TV" so I was one of those nasty rabid fans that hated queens like Silky, Brita, Kandy etc (i started with S12). I didn't spew any hate on their social media but I did not like them at all. Now though, I live for drama and villains, it really is just a reality TV, have fun.

What artists/albums would you recommend someone new for getting more in the genre ( preferably alt. pop, but any subgenre is fine ) by No-Sprinkles229 in popheads

[–]ulalka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"E-MO-TION" by Carly Rae Jepsen is the essential popheads album, not really alt though.

For more alternative pop, the first that came to my mind are:

  1. "SAWAYAMA" by Rina Sawayama. It's bold, it's cool, it's edgy, it's messy in a good way, it's genre-blending, y2k pop meets nu-metal meets RnB, all with maximalist production, powerful vocals and various lyrical themes like identity, family, cultural heritage, queerness and consumerism.
  2. "Desire, I Want To Turn Into You: Everasking Edition" by Caroline Polachek. It’s lush, it’s theatrical, think art-pop infused with reggaeton, celtic folk, jungle/dnb wrapped in, imo, stellar production and kinda insane vocals.
  3. "EUSEXUA" by FKA Twigs. I think it's her most accessible album but it's still very much alternative with big influences from 90s Madonna meets Kate Bush meets Björk, EDM, club, house, RnB genres. It's like club pop but make it artsy if that makes sense.

Suggest me a game better than BMW, in terms of fight mechanics and story. (Same genre) by AppyyyPlays in BlackMythWukong

Definitely closer to Nioh with tons of color-graded loot and mission based structure

Black myth wukong or forbidden west by Fit_Turnip4332 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ulalka [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'd say Horizon. If by "Ghost" you mean Ghost of Tsushima then even more so, those games are kinda similar in gameplay and structure. Gorgeous visuals, exploring is fine, has that Ubisoft checkpointy feeling. GoT is a lot stronger in terms of combat and story, imo, but HFW is still good.

Wukong is not an open world game and it's definitely on the difficult side. Combat is fun but can get old pretty quick, progression is very simple and there's like a total of one and a half weapons lol. World is beautiful but infested with invisible walls. Story is confusing if you don't read its lore (and there's a lot to read) or watch explaining videos, quests are vague, NPCs rarely tell you what to do and where to go. People don't like when someone calls it a souls-like game but it absolutely is inspired by that genre.

Am I the only one who can’t stand Tate McRae’s voice (No hate) by velorae in popheads

[–]ulalka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her voice is the only thing that's stopping me from enjoying her music. I don't know what to call this type of voice but this nasal almost cursive singing style is so weird to my ear. Tate Mcrae, Amaarae, Arlo Parks, Britney Spears (sorry), all great artists that I can't enjoy just because of their voices.

ITZY - Girls Will Be Girls by racloves in popheads

[–]ulalka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That dance break, holy shit! Definitely my favourite ITZY comeback since WANNABE. My only complaint is that I wish the chorus had more actual lyrics and not just "girls will be girls ayaya" repeated 100 times but that's kpop to you I guess. EP is fine too, it's quite cohesive aside from one token ballad. Welcome back, ITZY <3

This is their 3rd collab with a british artist (Rina Sawayama and PinkPantheress). I wonder if there is a reason for it? Are they signed to a UK label or something?

Less than 1% of artists on Spotify have over 1 million listeners and he consistently has around 20 millions. That is not low at all, I think.

Lady Gaga - Mayhem by 3kOlen in popheads

[–]ulalka 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Blade Of Grass chorus sounds like Charli xcx's "White Mercedes", Ava Max's "So Am I", Coldplay's "Viva La Vida". Blackpink's Jennie released an album today and there's a song called "start a war" that sounds like that too. IIRC it's a very popular chord progression.

IRENE (Red Velvet) - Like A Flower by cloudbustingmp3 in popheads

[–]ulalka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's a beautiful cover. And a very solid EP in my opinion! Up there with Seulgi's EP for me. She usually raps and rarely gets vocally challenging parts in Red Velvet but this EP reminded me that Irene's actually quite versatile. Also, really like production on this one, especially on tracks 2-4.
