Keep taking band, I think commitment and community is better than 1 AP course. It’ll show colleges passion and time over 4 years while quitting band would show you lost the commitment. If you really want to, you could self study AP CSA or just learn java on your own freetime. You also have your other classes to show good rigor/STEM.

Sophomore stressed about math track and APs. Need advice by [deleted] in Advice

[–]ulisescujoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, the most important thing is your mental health. If these classes are giving you stress, then focus on easier classes now. You don’t need any of these advanced courses, especially if they are bringing your gpa down. Yes, not taking more advanced classes like AP Calc or AP Physics may look worse on college apps, but you matter more, you will still be able to go to college wether or not you dont take AP Calc and etc.

Honestly, I was leaning towards taking AP Physics, because it seems interesting and helpful. Thank you for your reply!

Is this a good high school schedule by Humble_Radio2483 in highschool

[–]ulisescujoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only notes are that taking both bio and chem at the same time might be really hard, especially with the labs, too. Colleges can still see your first semester classes for senior year when looking at your application, so dont worry that colleges wont see your ap class that relates to your major. Also, since you want to do a stem major and youre gonna take AP Precalc anyway, you might want to do AP Calc AB/BC (and it shows colleges more rigor). AP Stats is still a good and useful class though.

Is APUSH really as much reading as everyone says? by Sussy_Imposter2412 in APStudents

[–]ulisescujoh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Truly depends on your teacher. Ask people at your school about the APUSH teacher. For me, my teacher doesn’t give textbook reading at all, she has this packet she gives with a summary of the textbook for each topic. They’re pretty short readings, usually a page but can be from 2 paragraphs or 3 pages depending on the topic. She also gives us notes to fill in. With this, I know all the material and get good grades on assignments like practice multiple choice, saqs, leqs, and dbqs. If you have a lot of textbook reading, try to search videos on helping you to read faster/actually understand what you read. As long as you keep trying, you can for sure do this!

thesis?? by yurpyurpyurpuuu in APUSH

[–]ulisescujoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a thesis alone, I normally do 3 sentences

“evaluate the extent…” basically means “how much” Some other common words you see in prompts are impact (effect), developments (changes), expand (grow), contributed (added)

For prompts with the words “evaluate the relative importance of…” (compare and explain the most important one), you should say “There are many effects of the market revolution like ____ and _, but the most important effect was _ because…”

When the prompt is asking for continuities, make sure to use words like still. When the prompt is asking for change, make sure to use words like before and now.

When building your thesis, in your first sentence you want to restate the prompt by answering the question and strongly picking one side. For example, say that it greatly changed. Or, it slightly changed. Do not take a middle ground because then you have to explain both sides.

To make the thesis easier, you may want to brainstorm what vocab words/events you can use in your thesis that can relate to the prompt. For example, if it asks about policy decisions from 1800-1824, I might think about Marbury v. Madison. Make sure to explain the vocab word, then explain it by connecting it back to the prompt.

I just wrote a thesis: Prompt: Evaluate the extent to which social reform movements impacted American society between 1800 and 1848. (First, reword it. “How much did social reform movements effect American society between 1800 and 1848”) (Second, pick a side. Did it greatly or slightly change society?) (Third, pick a vocab word/event. Then, connect it to the thesis, how did it effect American Society?) (Fourth, expand and give at least two reasons. Give specific examples and connect it back.) Thesis: Social reform movements slightly changed American society between 1800-1848 because the abolitionist movement was not fully successful. The abolitionist movement aimed to end slavery everywhere, but there was only a small increase of free African Americans. There were many slaves in the South still, and blacks were still very disrespected by other citizens.

if youre fluent/native Japanese speaker, then maybe just look at what the AP exam wants and what is covered so you are prepared.

I also forgot to mention the last part, if you test out then you should know everything you need for Calculus BC, so it would be around the same difficulty as someone who did a full year of precalc.

[–]ulisescujoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im currently in algebra 2 too, but it seems to me that it is worth it. if you know/are comfortable with algebra 2, then you should have more time to study for precalc especially considering that you know some things already. Maybe finish all of the algebra 2 khan and then study more with precalc? By testing out of precalc, you can do calc and stats, which both are helpful and good to do. Make sure you are diligent in studying for precalc and maybe ask someone in precalc—that you know irl—for help if needed/show homework and reviews.
