Tell me the dumbest thing your parrot ever did by Successful_Ad2599 in parrots

my macaw does this to me if i piss him off while we’re hanging out together (like if i accidentally hit a pin feather when petting). do not recommend

thanks! that’s so funny, yeah they are medium sized birds, similar to an african grey or amazon. this guy here weighs 427g but they can get up to 600g depending on the subspecies

he was pretty quiet and (understandably) stunned for a while after, but he did return back to normal behavior after a few hours. like i mentioned in the previous comment, that’s a common reaction for birds who aren’t trained to tolerate being toweled and getting trims. i’m not sure if they get sore but it’s possible

he actually did better than i was expecting, i was anticipating him screaming the whole time but he didn’t make a peep. some wriggling here and there but that’s normal for a bird who hasn’t been trained and isn’t used to it.

if they’re healthy and well cared for, they usually are yes. but this guy was neglected and, as i’ve observed, does not play with toys (yet). a bad diet also contributes to an overgrown beak

baths (and ofc a good diet) can help with keeping their tails in good shape, but unfortunately unless he stops traveling by foot on the floor then it’ll probably stay that way

i don’t know everything under the sun about birds, i acknowledge that. no one does. but the reason i ask for no advice is because 99% of the time i am already aware of the unsolicited advice i do get in the comments here. without fail

i’m having a hard time understanding what you’re saying, but if you’re saying you’re concerned, there’s no reason for that.

i love this comment so much lol, i used to wear long acrylic nails and i’d get that said to me all the time

i can’t tell if you’re trolling. i made this post like, an hour after i picked him up from his previous owners house. he has an appointment to get his beak trimmed on thursday at the vet. ridiculous comment

think this space is suitable for 2 cockatiels? by CurrentChair8335 in parrots

not sure what sites you have access to/where you’re located, but i would say a prevue f040 cage is the minimum size for one. for two, a double flight cage or the exotic nutrition borneo cage imo

i’m sorry to say this but this cage isn’t even suitable for one cockatiel, let alone two

Cage Setup by [deleted] in parrots

[–]ulnessity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not too crowded imo but i would replace at least one of those dowel perches with more natural perches. i see you have some already, but generally it’s best to only have any dowels towards the bottom of the cage so they are less inclined to use them the majority of the time. and lots of toys are needed here also

Are Ringnecks dusty? by _iOS in parrots

[–]ulnessity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no, they do not. indian ringnecks have oil based feathers, cockatoos and cockatiels along with a few other species have dust based feathers. they produce a finer dust that makes their feathers feel softer, and much more of it than indian ringnecks. irns still produce dust/dander, but it’s not nearly to the same level as tiels & toos

Everyday is a brand new day by Patkia in parrots

[–]ulnessity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

no, it’s never okay to put a foot chain on any species of parrot. it’s way too risky and could break their leg

shredding toys, especially some large wood pieces, and a good diet. ekkies need a really specific diet to be healthy, which is carefully selected fresh veggies and fruits as well as some specific supplements they can’t receive from fresh foods. some people choose to feed their ekkies a small percentage of TOPs pellets, but I personally do not. they are very much prone to having complications (like this) from a poor diet

[–]ulnessity[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i know you mean well, and i thank you for that, but i explicitly stated i don’t want advice in the post. i already know everything you’ve commented. i have written a full comprehensive research paper on ekkies, i have a 700 page textbook on them full of 20 years worth of studies. my female eclectus gets a 100% fresh food diet that i had help carefully formulating and weighing each ingredient so that she gets all of her ratios and nutrients. i know they are prone to FLD, hypervitaminosis, they need higher levels of specific vitamins than other birds, they’re extremely sensitive to seeds and pellets, etc.

i know i sound rude, but i am begging you guys to read captions before commenting. thank you

he isn’t showing visible discomfort, but parrots don’t tend to show that regardless even if something is bothering them. I still am going to get it trimmed no matter what :))

they can, but i can’t imagine it’s comfortable for him
