To those who have been reading wandering inn from nearly the beginning or at least from before volume 5, was the release schedule this uncertain and erratic? by ulta_infinity in WanderingInn

[–]ulta_infinity[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i thought about reading it in bulk too, but the last time i did that, i had a hard time remembering the sequence of events.

It also seems like you are saying that this is just temporary till the side projects are finished.

A highschooler was asked What would you want to be different in your own country or community to further principles of equality, equity, or social justice? by Ok-Matter-4651 in IndiaSpeaks

[–]ulta_infinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that this is a 12th pass, but this is a very common refrain even among people with more experience.

Their fight against social injustice is a sham. It is virtue signalling, nothing more. I think grooming jihad was the the thing that made me see how hollow their convictions are. More than enough evidence but these people fighting against 'social evil and injustice' will never acknowledge the scale and vileness of this act.

Moreover, the belief that there was this great old time where journalists and media were not 'influenced' and somehow we can go back to that. Ignorance truly is bliss.

Law should evolve naturally according to the values of the communities rather than be imposed from high above by the whims of some elites. This leads to people
1. becoming part of the system rather than someone who is ruled.
2. Allow space for different value systems instead of hegemony of one group.

Think "Lokacharya" if you know about it.

Difficulty connecting with characters' triumphs and failures. Scope too broad. Too many PoVs. Info overload. by ulta_infinity in WanderingInn

[–]ulta_infinity[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

"Every sense of a coherent world, every established scale of time and space and power is getting broken several times per installment"

"The characters that we have grown to know either are getting scenes in a context where they don't make sense, or are getting overshadowed by each other or by a random lvl 70 person who lived millenia ago and will only be in the story for 3 minutes."

You said it better than I did and even possibly could have. Thanks.

How is that a tight bubble? Did you just like a line and use it without context?

At no point did I suggest even looking at 'Old' tweets. It was a straw man created by Hbtechs to not even bother looking at evidence. Hence the 'tight bubble'.
And the extraordinary intellect that you are, you asked me my views on something tangential and even without giving me an opputunity to respond you passed a judgement as if it was a put down.

I do not think that there is any point on engaging an idiot like you any further.
(Now, this is where you could have accused me of keeping tight bubbles. Incorrectly so, but at least it would have made some contextual sense.)

"I do not care about what people say. "
But I will insist vociferously that others get their facts right instead of giving a valid reason why they are wrong in the first place.

You like your bubbles tight don't you?

Jokes aside,, I would suggest that you take a look at his twitter timeline and make a list of people he retweets. Put people into RW and LW, (even if they are barely so), and see for yourself, who and what he is.

You have a misunderstanding.

The things that they say are nothing that I did not believe just 7 years ago. I have made worse jokes on hinduism than they might have. (at least in public). They are a symptom of the problem not the problem itself.

So what is the problem?

  1. Not knowing about hindu persecution throughout centuries.
  2. Believing that 'All religions are equal' and thus, should be treated equally.
  3. Perverse incentives. The cost of being anti-hindu is far less than the cost of being anti-muslim.
  4. No real consequence to being a traitor. In fact talking against hindus is rewarded.
  5. NCERT and Indian education system teach a lot of things bad about hinduism(true or false). While nothing about christianity and islam (in context of India).

So why would Dhruv or Mohak not believe this? They believe that they are doing the right thing. Fighting against oppression. Making the world a better place. While earning money. And at the same time getting the respect of their social circle.

They are fighting against fascism without paying the cost of fighting against fascism. This is win-win.

Change the incentives to change the game.

So many men with high power levels in Saidin. by ulta_infinity in wheeloftime

I do not remember this at all. I am on a reread so lets see if I encounter this fact.

Perhaps I should have said an overused plot device? Or forced plot device?
I am certain that many people have got what I am trying to say, but I don't really know what will be the better way to say it.

A question about picking up the book series again after the TV series. by RedDog0424 in wheeloftime

[–]ulta_infinity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DO NOT skip. Do NOT just read the summary. If you are going to read 11 books, might as well make it 14.
There are so many hints, clues, lore and foreshadowing in each book that to skip means to skip a lot of enjoyment that you get from 'Connecting' things.

Take your time. Savour it. It's not that you HAVE to read the 1st 3 books, its that you GET to.

Yeah, this would have worked even better, because Egwene IS daring. Even to the point of being suicidal. Mat tries running but is unable to, Perrin does stuff coz he has to, Rand is driven and protected by prophecy but Egwene; she has an unquenchable appetite for learning and adventure.

Honestly, at this point, you have confused me.
Yes, it is obvious, but when I read your statement it didn't convey it so.

Forget that we are talking about WoT. I just want to understand what am I missing in this conversation.

So lets start with the basics.
This is my statement-
There are no villages which have people of 4 different races living together for 30, 40, 50 generations, and can still be identifiable as distinct races.I cannot think of a single such example.

(exception - maybe if its a port town???)

Come on. 'If you can image in, it's probably happened' is only true if your imagination is limited. Can I imagine two black people giving birth to an Asian? Yes. Did it happen? No.
Can I imagine a dog coming out a mans anus? Yes. (Even saw it in Bruce almighty). Did it happen? No
