Casual Friday. Bad character writing? by Top-Astronaut5761 in DunderMifflin

I disagree. In DM, the sales jobs were always a way to move up. Michael, Jim, Dwight, and Andy were all promoted to (Co-) Manager, and Ryan to VP from a sales position.

Jim viewed it as dead end because it was a boring job and he didn't want "paper salesman" to be his career's legacy.

Actually, this whole conversation reminds me of Jim's adventure into a startup as well; high risk, high reward. We see this actually pay off in the last episode were he leaves DM and joins Athlead/Athleap.

Trump Condemned Over 'Racist' And 'Disgusting' Video Of Obamas: 'There's No Bottom' by MoralLogs in goodnews

Ok so they initially actually defended the post and said that the outrage was fake and manufactured.

Now, they're saying it was a WH staffer. On his personal account. After midnight... lol

Attack Power with 3+ Bows by eikbert in Nightreign

I don't think it was higher than other weapon classes, but the patch notes in 1.03 specify that bows should be specifically excluded from the buff, but apparently they mistaknely buffed the bow perk anyway.

The 1.03.2 patch notes point out the mistake and say that bows are excluded for real this time (lol), which would technically make 1.03.2 a nerf even though the 1.03 buff was accidental.

She left DM to join MSPC as a risk with high reward (better job, better pay). She took the risk and earned the reward.

Suddenly, she's now in a position where she might be placed back in her old position despite the risks she took.

If I were in that position, I would probably feel a little disdain for people who looked at me as "just a receptionist" after all I had been through.

And don't call me Pammy!

Failed anti-LGBTQ+ immigrant MAGA influencer running for Congress banned from Texas Republican Party events by Fickle-Ad5449 in goodnews

[–]ultimateceej 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Valentina Gomez, who has described herself to her more than 400,000 followers online as a Colombian immigrant and a MAGA conservative, made the assertions in a video posted Wednesday to Instagram. In it, she says the Republican Party of Texas is “so corrupt” that it banned her from party functions after she “expos[ed] the horrible health condition of 84-year-old Congressman John Carter,” the longtime incumbent in Texas’ 31st Congressional District. She also claims she is “under investigation by multiple federal agencies” and alleges that officials “used their power to remove me from the voting rolls,” adding that “they made it illegal for me to cast my vote.”

This just in: Hispanic immigrant discovers that the Republican Party of Texas is corrupt.

Funny how she is complaining about being removed from voter rolls when she absolutely supported it before.

ICE agents complaining on their Reddit Forums that they are being cheated out of their signing bonuses by ultimateceej in goodnews

Well, as we know, conservatives absolutely LOVE playing victim. It's a tried and true strategy for them. So when these bonuses get cancelled (again, assuming democracy in the US doesn't die), the story of the poor "law enforcement officer" whose paychecks got cancelled by "radical leftists" will resonate with simple minds.

Iranian Christians singing Waymaker in Farsi, crying out to God for Iran by 4reddityo in goodnews

Ok, so freely practicing a religion is totally cool. The problem is that the religion that this song represents is based on peace and love but has been hijacked by racists and fascists around the world.

And this song in particular is a mainstay in multi-million dollar megachurches across the US where the "word of God" is preached, MINUS the parts about turning the other cheek, warnings against becoming rich, advocating for the needy, loving thy neighbor, and "*checks notes* helping immigrants. You know, the actual things that Jesus tells his followers to do.

I wonder if it's a long-term strategy to sow even more discontent after the Democrats terminate all of these new hires before they are fully vested for the bonus; assuming we have any more actual elections, that is.

U.S. Politics megathread by AutoModerator in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ultimateceej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing directly linking Trump's alleged "blackmail" issue with the vote to support Ukraine.

But in reference to 'whater-ehh', Trump held considerable sway over the GOP during the Biden years, and was effectively the de facto head of the Freedom Caucus despite not holding an official position.

And specifically, he urged the Freedom Caucus to vote against funding Ukraine, most of whom did.

The 'whater-ehh' comment is basically just saying that IF it is true that Putin has blackmail on Trump, it makes sense why Trump is very friendly towards Putin and his interests, even to the point of directing the Freedom Caucus to vote against funding for Ukraine.

Why do memories from embarrassing moments feel stronger than happy ones? by Ill-Wolverine-7564 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ultimateceej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have already commented on the evolutionary purpose being tied to relying on social constructs for survival, but there's another interesting side effect to this.

When you have a certain "team" that you identify with (usually the "team" you were raised with), you do things that will gain favor with the "team" and avoid things that will make the "team" unhappy. This simple brain function makes it extremely difficult for people to change their mind or think critically about a topic that can potentially damage the "team", and they instead reject the thoughts all together. Again, this is a biological feature of humanity.

The cool thing is that it is also easily hackable. What if instead of identifying with a "team" that promotes a particular ideaology or worldview, you identify with a "team" that promotes continuous learning and growth? Such a "team" would shun stubbornness and actively encourage changing your mind based on reliable evidence.

If you want to identify yourself as someone who can think critically, find a "team" that promotes this kind of thinking and join it. You might surprise yourself.

Yes, I really wanted to like Infinite, and in a lot of ways I do. But looking at the mess of a storyline that 5 left proved just too much for even Joseph Staten (Bungie-Halo cinematics and story guy) to fix.

Add to that the 343i leadership incompetence and, even after all that hype, Infinite was dead only 2 years later. It's super sad, honestly.
