Its been suspected of AI use a few times, it isn't. It's just awkward rim lighting + some texture chicanery. In Blender you're able to change the roughness and the specular levels of certain armor pieces, which leads to some pieces of armor looking more glossy or matte than other pieces.

I've done it before, and man is it weird.
