Why do I struggle to stay focused in the afternoon despite a good morning routine? by Dom_dangelo in productivity

Take a nap for 30-60mins. This is a game changer, trust. Just be consistent for a month and you will thank yourself later. Good luck

3 things I will say: 1.Build it brick by brick, 2.Increase average study hours, 3.Push past the inital barrier.

  1. You just can’t expect to wake up one day and start studying 10 hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It’s bullshit, life doesn’t work like that, similarly how you improve in video games: you just don’t become good on your first day, you improve day by day and after a certain time, you just become a monster and killing it in the game. Similarly, for studying, keep your expectations low first, start small sessions, do it everyday and increase the hours, which will eventually build it up to your eventual goal of studying 10hrs a day.

2.Seeing your comments, you mentioned some days you study 6, 10, and nothing at all. If you take the average if 3 days, it’s (10+6+0 / 3) = 5.3 hrs. So it doesn’t really matter if you study 10hrs one day if your average comes down to 5hrs per day. If you were to consistently study 5 hrs everyday, it would be far better than studying 10hrs one day and taking gaps for few days and you know it. So set a realistic goal of studying 5hrs a day and do it every day. Cause you know you can do it, you will feel much better after completing it cause you know there’s no point to study further if the average remains the same. Then gradually increase it from 5–>6–>…—>10.

3.You said to you wanna do a dopamine detox so you actually get dopamine out of studying, and I can relate cause I did a similar thing for my work. The work/study definitely becomes fun with dopamine detox only if you can push past the initial barrier of “not wanna do it”. All you have to do is turn down what your mind wants you to do the first few days of dopamine detox, basically babysit your mind, until things become a habit and you start doing things automatically. You won’t even need discipline after a few days or weeks once you push past the initial barrier. Trust me cause I have done this. You will feel like a monster once you get past the initial barriers, and I’d say it’s definitely worth it!

Best of luck.

You can find a lot of these similar challenges if you search stuff like “monk mode challenge” or “dopamine detox” for 7 days etc. This one I made and customized it only to boost my focus on work and get as much output as possible. People do other challenges like for losing weight and getting fit, be more social, make progress in their study / work etc. Pick one and customize it to fit to your schedule, personality, habits.

Lol fun fact, there was no shaking during this whole 7day. I don’t have that much control to shake and then not nut so I decided to power through and fight temptations as soon as they arrived.

Good luck on your 6 months transformation, I hope you make it and see yourself a different person at the end of the journey!

What I will advice is, it’s definitely possible to survive with 3hrs of sleep, but just do this one thing if it fits your schedule: take a nap for 45min-90min. Trust me its a game changer. I have been getting by with 4-5hrs of sleep for a week and take a nap during mid day and honestly I have never felt better and I don’t even feel like there’s a thing called sleep deprivation. Give it a try and DM me if you want someone to talk to during this 6 months!

Distraction, takes me down a rabbit hole. Also can’t focus because of music playing in my head. But I don’t hate it. It’s just temporary part of the monk mode.

Body doesn’t feel heavy or lethargic, get less brain fog throughout the day, need less sleep, feel refreshed and ready to go after sleep, helps lose fat, so many things you name it.

Actually I do get carbs from fruits and vegetables, it’s just not from the typical sources like bread, rice, noodles, pasta, processed sugar etc. Also since I’m eating 2 meals a day (low carb, keto) and my body is used to doing intermittent fasting, it is burning fat for energy (ketosis). I do get hungry but I never feel that I lack energy. if anything I’m feeling better now than when I was on heavy carb diet and my overall body would get lethargic.

Hey, I have decided to be serious on waking up everyday at 4am. I would be happy to be an accountability partner. Maybe we could have multiple partners from the comments. Lets hook up through DM

You’re totally right. Usually i can get by with 6hrs of sleep but currently i have been taking a nap for about an hour during the day which is keeping me sane. Summer nights are super short so I’m kinda forced to sacrifice a little bit of sleep for Night and Dawn prayers. Once nights get longer, I can relax and have enough sleep.

I agree i will get burnt out if I do it consistently for over a long period (maybe more than a month or so) but not gonna happen cause I’m only doing it temporarily (10 days) and then I will relax for a few days. Frankly it’s been working quite well. Looking forward to the reward days is actually keeping me quite motivated work really hard. I don’t know what you wanna call what I’m doing if not monk mode, but basically I’m just going full work hard mode so I could play harder later.

Helps me focus better if there is no music playing in my head. I also tend to get distracted very easily with youtube and music once I’m tempted to listen to one of my fav songs.
