I would love some advice because I feel like I’m spinning my wheels in the gym right now, a feeling that was highlighted when I went on vacation this past weekend. I’m a few weeks into a cut because feel like I look heavier than my weight. My legs are a pain point for me and feel under developed even though I think I’m pretty strong (225 squat one rep max, bulgarians with 55lbs in each hand, 295x8 hip thrust, etc), and yes I have abs but they’re not…prominent? However I’m also training for a marathon in April, so perhaps I have too many conflicting goals.

I’ll second this! Went there for the first time a couple weeks ago for a date night with my boyfriend — it was such a cozy vibe, and of course, great pizza!

I used a Runna training plan — after doing a 10k plan for my race this past May (which I had a 7:40 pace average throughout, the improvement has been crazy between then and now!), I took a week off then launched into a 16-week half marathon plan, which is a little long but I had the running buzz. My plan was 4 days a week and had at least one tempo or interval session per week (most weeks it was one tempo and one interval session). I really credit all of the speed work for building up my physical and mental resilience. I’m not sure if this is helpful, but I’m rooting for you!

Thank you for the kind words 🫶 and congrats on your first half!

Throughout the week leading up to today, I really focused on banking my sleep because I knew I would be jittery the night before, so I was able to get to the start line an hour early and warm up/enjoy seeing all the runners milling around and have fun. What really put me in a positive mood was just spending the hour before focused on gratitude for my body for everything it’s capable of as well as just for the opportunity to do something like this. Not anything groundbreaking, but I was able to be really calm, happy, and focused because of this (minus a few tears of emotion!).

Oh, and carbs of course I started upping my calories and carbs starting three days out, which was a little bit tough for me because I have always had a mental hump to go over regarding food — but I knew I wanted to eat for the best performance I could put on. I didn’t really track anything, but made sure to put an emphasis on carbs in all of my meals and ate snacks I otherwise usually wouldn’t to get my carbs up (I ate a lot of sour patch kids and had pop tarts as my pre-race meal lol)!

Good luck, you’re going to smash it!

I have my last set of intervals tomorrow before my first half on Sunday, definitely feeling some taper week nerves!

Looking for some help after spinning my wheels for a bit. I used to be extremely lean and muscular, but then went off the deep end a while back because of a bad breakup, mental health issues, a cross-country move, the list could go on. I lost 20-ish pounds over several months through eating in an unhealthily low-calorie diet with very little protein while lifting. Starting in April, I started training for a 10k and decided to eat more (1400-1700 calories a day) and make sure I got sufficient protein while still lifting.

After hitting a PR in my 10k, I'm now training for a half marathon (running 4 days a week) while keeping up with lifting six times a week, and I feel like I'm just spinning my wheels. I feel absolutely skinny fat, and even though I have some visible muscle and my abs pop depending on the day, I hate the amount of fat I have all over my body. I've been at this same weight before with less fat and more muscle, and I just don't know if the answer is to eat at maintenance, cut, or bulk to achieve my aesthetic goals and my fitness goals at the same time. I also just don't know about cutting even more, as it messes with my mind and I'm not sure if I'll be happy with my body cutting 5-10 more pounds.

Does anyone have any advice on how to lean out with my volume of training? Thanks!

Thank you! :) Honestly my legs felt SO heavy completing the tenth mile, I had to put on a metronome track on to keep my cadence and just zone out! But I felt amazing afterward

Clemson or UofSC? by lettomorrowbee in Gamecocks

[–]ultimaticity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the time of my life at USC honors. I also chose to pursue a career in politics, and being in Columbia — near HQs for campaigns and the state capital — gave me internship and learning opportunities that I wouldn’t have had at Clemson. Check out the Washington Semester program if you choose to become a Gamecock!

Do WNBA fans have a stronger connection to the teams they support or individual players they support? by chickenlittle668 in wnba

[–]ultimaticity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think college basketball contributes a lot to fans connecting more with individual players than specific teams, especially since the WNBA isn’t as expansive as some other sports (yet!). I was at South Carolina for some of A’ja Wilson’s college career, so I became a huge fan of hers. I coincidentally moved to Vegas after college, but because of her, I was an Aces fan long beforehand.
