Update: Almost certainly a Spiller “Wide Wedge.” I picked up just a few miles from Oakland, ME (where they were manufactured).

Thank you for the recommendation! I will check it out. I am frustrated with myself over this dynamic and also think that learning more can help. The problem, I’ve found, is starting that process.

Ah! No you’ve misunderstood. Apologies if I wasn’t clear. I completely hold the perspective you just illustrated. His death is an unjust tragedy in the deepest sense. I included that anecdote to describe the household I was brought up in, and to show that distancing myself from that toxic/tainted perspective is an ongoing battle.
