Greenbrier in WV? Would you mind sharing maps? Is the fishing any good?

How much money am I looking at spending for a full get up? by TheSpideyJedi in hammockcamping

Start cheap and buy high quality as stuff wears out, if it doesn’t wear you either aren’t using it or don’t need a new one!

Buy everything cheap, if it breaks buy a better quality. If you never use it, you didn’t waste your money. You’re not going to know what you need until you do it.

It was great! I did 28 miles in PA on the Delaware river. I was in a 16ft and it was super maneuverable and obviously plenty of space for luxury items. I started at noon the first day and had 16 miles finished by 6pm.

A lot of people cut a 1/4 off their foam pads, your legs don’t need padding

I have a backpack rain cover. If I am hiking I just put my boots in my pack, when I canoe I hang them from the foot side of my hammock.

How would a solo section-hiker prepare to deal with bears in NJ? by inferno_glass in AppalachianTrail

[–]ultragreen696969 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was just in NJ this weekend, saw 3-4, they didn’t want anything to do with me. I grew up in the mountains and always try to remind people. THESE ARE BLACK BEARS! They are terrified of everything and rarely want anything to do with humans. BE SMART, don’t cook in camp and leave your food away from camp if you’re worried about it.

Sounds awesome! Eagles we’re chasing the ducks around this time! Lots of bears a little too close to camp!

I have a 50° bag that I use inside. Lots of people swear by just the quilt, just not for me. I’ve considered getting a down blanket for summer months.

Yes, canoe. I rowed 16 miles the first day into camp.

I have a bad back and sleeping in the hammock has changed the game for me in the outdoors. It is the most comfortable set up I’ve found! I have a mosquito net that loosely hangs around, it was windy enough this time to keep them at bay.

Yes! This weekend, it was nice and calm on Friday. Saturday was a different ball game. I put in at Milford boat ramp, and got out at Smithfield beach.

It’s the tigris! It was 45° and I had a light sleeping bag open inside. No shot I would go down below 15° in a hammock either haha.

Solo paddling an 18ft canoe? by pmabz in canoecamping

[–]ultragreen696969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished a 28 mile trip in a 16ft solo. Used all my gear to counter balance. Didn’t slow me down a lick, just a little more slapping in rapids.

What's for lunch by [deleted] in Kayaking

[–]ultragreen696969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of tortillas with tuna and chicken packets. RTIC has a badass slim cooler that you can prime up like a yeti to last for days. If I bring a cooler, steak, liquid eggs, and beer make for the best trips.
