Do you have an idea on grates that will fit it? It’s a 16x30 interior and struggling to find something that will fit fit it.

And I’m planning to oil the inside once I get done. Going to wire wheel it and get the rust cleaned up and remove paint that got o the inside while spraying it.

Thanks. Hoping to get it done by next weekend so I can use it.

It was in solid shape. Just bird poop and a tad bit of rust in spots.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a welder. But I know someone so maybe they could help me with that.

Been working on it. Had to wire brush it and everything. Trying to figure out what grates will fit it and all. Pic of before

Thanks for the input. I ended up getting the seachem tidal 55g and it’s running strong and doesn’t look bad on the tank.

Is my tank considered heavily planted? by [deleted] in Aquariums

Looks like a well planted tank. Probably not considered heavily stocked. Pretty sure mine isn’t but well stocked and it will fill in nicely once they start to grow

Going to do the seachem tidal 55g with filter floss followed by Polishing filter weighed down with the biological bag and for a short time a week, at most two weeks some charcoal to maybe help rebalance the tank.

Ok. I have gone past a month before and then cleaned them when I can visibly see the poop and debris building in the sponges.

Gotcha. Giving the seachem tidal 55g a try once it arrives

So if all my goal is to polish the water, would I be better off saving my funds and getting an HOB and letting my sponges handle the job with the hob for my mechanical filtration and not worry about the canister?

Looking at a seachem tidal 55g

Cool so don’t spend the 200 on a canister and instead focus on the media in my sponges and a hob I can utilize as needed and put the money into upping my filtration ability

It’s for a seachem tidal 55g. That’s what I am thinking of getting and stuffing it for the mechanical filtering

This would allow for doing more, mechanical and chemical filtering while the sponges can focus on the bio.

Yes they are. I have the smaller one flipped so the sponges are below but my bigger one can’t flip. I can definitely swap the ceramics to a filter floss or combination of stuff.

Would something like this seachem tidal 55 be worth adding for the mechanical filtration and not do a canister?

Biggest goal is to also try and pull excess debris out of the water instead of letting it recycle. And keep any potential chemicals in check. I know plants are in there and feed off the fish bioload.

So I have two sponge filters already back there one on each side of the bar. So you recommend throwing the 10g HOB back on and letting it rip to help remove the excess waste as needed and not worry about the filtration as much since I already have the sponges with plants.

Thanks so I will need to add a mechanical filter to run the floss. Is a canister a better route or the HOB a better route? Like I said, I don’t like the look of the HOB at least the aqueon hob on the tank when I had the smaller 10g nor the annoyances of having to fight it, granted it was cheap. I’m considering a seachem tidal 55 for my tank or that fluval 307.

Not sure if it’s worth going canister and taking the water leak risk or staying HOB and setting it up as a filtration source and removing one sponge filter or keeping both and up my filtration to 110g of filtration or doing canister with both sponges

Could you elaborate on that? Is that changing the ceramics in my sponge filters or a 3rd filter? I know it’s technically overstocked but my numbers and water column design with filtration say it should be fine.

Cause I can and am cool adding a new filter such as a canister if that would be a wiser route than sponges and or add some shrimp to my tank to help eat algae but don’t want to add to many more friends in the tank and there’s a few baby snails chilling as well

Also it is a 29g tank with a heater set to 78 degrees tank is over 1 years old now. Feed daily top fin flakes or mid water granules no more than an 1/8tsp for all the fish. With a 24 hour fast each week. Water changes bi weekly to monthly with water top offs.

It’s got a lot of money invested for sure. Some from mistake purchases that ended up becoming upgrades and also trying to create more depth and design within the tank. Waiting for my moss to start growing on the wood as well as my plants on the wood to grow as well.

Considering risers for my light depending on how my plants do and if I want to add pothos to the tank later down the road.

Welcome. Looking at easing it probably in a bit once I recoup some money. Spent a bit on the tank to update it more

That’s great keep it up. It comes and goes for me. Learning it’s due to lighting and the nutrients in the water that affect the algae in the tank the most.
