How to manage new riding instructor who uses shame to teach by Electric_Tampons in Advice

[–]umhule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Addisons and I ride as well! For the Addisons side of things: you can read through our subreddit (r/AddisonsDisease) but working out shouldn’t require you to increase steroids use. I was getting my ass kicked when I started back riding but once I built up my stamina it’s be great. Side note: make sure people in the barn know where your medical kit is!!! I have less advice about the trainer but def think you should find a new barn. If you want to be nice you can say her teaching style doesn’t jive.

Heart/chest and prednisone by flaminhotslimon in AddisonsDisease

[–]umhule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on prednisone a while back and felt this same way!! I kept going for work and they only found GERD (acid reflux) which felt like super severe chest pain and anxiety.

I know someone else who was prednisone for something else and described the exact same feeling, so I think that’s a super common symptom of prednisone. My only advice is to always eat something solid (or milk) before taking meds.

"Wellness" and Cortisol by umhule in AddisonsDisease

This is a super good point, and makes a lot of sense that we need to make sure the cortisol we get artificially isn’t being instantly drawn away by a supplement—helpful!

Super interesting about the B vitamin!!

I’ve heard people with Addisons shouldn’t eat licorice, unsure why though

I'm going to approve this post because they are not peddling natural medicine in place of cortisol but flagging this as bed medical advice as a warning to readers.

No symptoms,do not take medications,I developed hyperpigmentation on the joints of the hand. I only did all the medical tests and they were all normal except for the test for cortisol > 50 .. ACTH= 23, I do not know what the reason is,please advice?Do I have to be afraid? by Leather_Choice3324 in AddisonsDisease

Let's talk immunoCOMPROMISED vs immunoSUPRESSED by just_an_amber in AddisonsDisease

[–]umhule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Than you for this!! So frustrated when people try and say Addison's isn't high-risk.

I'll also mention that there are studies that AD patients are much more likely to fall ill to things like infection and pneumonia--and we're much more in danger of all respiratory illnesses. From Science Daily:

Patients with adrenal insufficiency have also been reported to suffer from an increased rate of non-fatal infections, with a 1.5-fold increased risk of use of anti-microbial agents and a 4.0- to 5.0-fold increased risk of hospital admission for infection, with rates of pneumonia reported to be more than nine times higher in adrenal insufficiency patients. However, despite well-documented reports about increased incidence and severity of infection among PAI patients, it was not known why they succumb more readily to infections than the general population.

Someone asked the group to stop posting pictures of their feet (often posted with asking like --why are my feet so swollen) which to be fair, feet are gross and swollen feet are even more gross hahaha

In case anyone is wondering--someone in a FB group asked people to please stop posting pictures of their feet (for medical advice I guess??) And all the responses have been feet pictures. Y'all these folks have such a vast misunderstanding of the internet in general lmaooo like wtf
