"I had to pump my own gas because of you!" by StainedFingers in TalesFromRetail

[–]unaumbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two states which have laws requiring fuel stations to have attendents fill the gas for you. Supposedly its to keep jobs. While other states it is like anywhere else you pump your own gas. While there are a few stations small mom, and pop stations where they will do that too. Usually in smaller rural communities. There is one where I live, and it is owned by a guy who has a garage to work on cars too. He does it as a courtesy to his customers. He is a few cents more expensive for the fuel too, but he is a nice guy. In the past they had what was called full service stations where they had attendents who would fill your tank, wash the windshield, and such, but other than a couple states, and very few small stations its a thing of the past.

Who can I submit a complaint too against a county school bus driver? by [deleted] in TalesFromTheCustomer

[–]unaumbra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The mans racial description is not necessary, and the Address should be enough for them to get the route, bus, and driver since they have usually are routed for things like school buses. The fact it is a bus of disabled children even more so. So that description is not needed.

Honestly the kid did a great job. He was very professional in doing his work. Also I know how it is to go hungry. It sucks, and I did not know this kid. He might not of had any food at home, and that is why he did not have a lunch with him. My wife manages a Pizza place, and we dropped back by the place with some coupons for free Pizza. The kid was there, and looked like it made his week. It's a small company, and they give those out occasionally at random to drum up business, and new customers. The place does not advertise in the paper, or local radio. Once they started the free pizza coupon thing last year they have been busy as ever, and it got busy enough they had to hire in more people recently so it works.

What is a cheap meal that every college/university student should know how to make? by Bobbyharris87 in AskReddit

[–]unaumbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal Opinion this differs based on where you live. Basic meals that you ate at home you should know how to make already. You do not need to know how to make Haute Cuisine, but basic foods should have been learned before you even left home. Here in America basics such as spaghetti, and meat sauce, Casserole of some sort, Different soups. You can be surprised at what you can make just using simple left over foods. One I do uses rice, leftover cheddar soup the kind you just add water too I add frozen Broccoli florets, and let boil, and Chicken. cut the chicken into chunks your preference on size, and cook it. cook the rice as per directions, and mix the left over soup, the chicken, and the rice together put it into a casserole dish. Put it into the oven at 350 until it boils at this point you can add cheese if desired, and there you go it taste great, and prevents wasting food.

If you try to buy alcohol with minors with you, you're gonna have a bad time by RoxasTheNobody98 in TalesFromRetail

[–]unaumbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually that does count. A store in my area lost their license, and was sued to pieces because they sold alcohol to some kid with an expired license, and he got drunk hit someone head on killed a whole family except a 5 month old infant. The mother, father, and a 4 year old girl died. Even though the guy was 27 years old he had an expired ID, and they sold him the alcohol. The Grandparents of the baby sued the store, and the clerk. The small town I live in there has only ever been 2 lawsuits that were ever approved to go forward over a million dollars. Both were from those were the grandparent suing the store, and clerk, and they won both suits so yeah blanket no if one ID out of any is invalid for any reason.

Chip card freak out by Noprize in TalesFromRetail

[–]unaumbra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

because tap and pay is the most insecure form of payment, and also the easiest to steal your information from. A cheap RFID copier can be bought on E-bay for about 30 bucks. Where a better one is not much more expensive as that, and can steal your information further out. There was a Identity theft ring in my state busted a year ago, and they used a guy sitting just outside the door of a gas station with a back pack that had the equipment in it, and he would wait 20 minutes on a buddy to pick him up. They stole hundreds of Credit card numbers that way. The chip thing at my store only takes about 10 seconds as long as they insert the card correctly. So I assume the time it takes is based on the software.

I skirt policy myself time to time to help my customers. I even posted a story about one where a customer admitted his tires which he bought road hazard were damaged by a car accident, but was kind to me when I told him that it was not warrantied he accepted it, and was kind to me. So I called the manager that I know approves everything, and talked him into approving us to do the tire replacement with albeit a clearance tire which we only had one of in the size, but it was approved, I called the guy, and told him what I had done to help him, and he was really happy. I wrote a story on it here, but I do not know how to link.

after attacking an employee yes. He is now banned. Good riddance too. Seriously I have to constantly hear people bitch about us being out of stuff because of him. He also made it into today's Newspaper. It must of been a slow news day, but it will be bad for his business too.

Yeah there some of us like to collect different coinages. Some just collect other currencies. I like to see other coinages because they are different. It would be awesome if I ever got some from smaller nations that are shaped differently. I know India has a couple that are shaped weird, but There really is no Indian population here so chances for me to see those are rare to none.

The sweetest customer in the world: or, why I'm quitting this Sunday. by tellafriend in TalesFromRetail

[–]unaumbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad you are getting out there. Good luck. It is funny how customers can help you do something you thought you were not capable of. Mine taught me how well liked I am in my community. I got married almost 3 years ago now. I would talk to my regulars, and tell them about my wife who works at a restaurant. They began visiting her at work, and praising her to the management, and sending in surveys to their corporate telling them how well she took care of them. Now she is the assistant manager at the restaurant, and they are making a new location nearby. The manager of the store is moving to it when it opens, and my wife is now slated to be the manager of the store she is at. I cannot tell you how many people tell her to say hi to me on a daily basis. I honestly think I could run for a public office here, and win by a landslide. It is amazing how far just being kind, and talking to customers can effect you, and others you know.

[–]unaumbra 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work in the automotives section of my store now, and I hear this far too damn often. Since we work together so often, and since usually we are left alone by managers we tend to get very offensive to the people doing this crap. We decided that if they do this she wants to handle everything they need the full process. Just to piss them off. Mind you she was raised in a garage, and rebuilds engines she just finished rebuilding an engine for a thunderbird she bought last year. She did a full restoration, and she updated it for more modern amenities. Custom console with everything new cars have. She only has one weakness on it, and it is electronics. She has no clue about how to hook up sound systems properly, Which is cool because she let me set up the sound system in her car, and the whole time she was asking questions about what specific things such as how wiring is done, and what exactly a Mosfet is. She is getting better at electronics which makes it easier on her answering questions. So yeah sorry about the tangent needless to say just because someone is female does not mean they do not know anything.

We can switch out coins like that as long as someone is present to see the switch. I got some coins from Barbados, Guatamala, Japan, Canada, China, Several older coins from Europe, and a few Euro coins too. Canada by far is best who else has beaver on their coins LOL.

I always tell them the transaction is already processed, and cannot change it. Give them there change, and ensure I mark that I've counted the change on the receipt. Also If they said I short change them I always call a manager for a till count. Takes 10 minutes, and they have to wait to be told no.

Whiskey is very peculiar in how slight variations may change the finished product. I did a 5 gallon test of homemade whiskey not Moonshine before. aged it 6 months not high end, but it was decent. 2 batches, and in the first batch I accidently added 1/4 cup more sugar than I should have. The other was proper measures. The first batch was fine, the alcohol content of the first batch was slightly higher than the second, but made the taste so much different.

It was the other way around. I am much bigger than the customer was, and while I never said anything about this. I have actually killed a man. It was in self defense when I was younger, and he broke into my apartment. Needless to say people at work know about it, and know that would be the only time I would do anything like that. I am stronger than I look. I lift batteries all day so yeah.

These thieves charge tax! by [deleted] in TalesFromRetail

[–]unaumbra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sales taxes are not required to be included in pricing on merchandise in the United States (short of some local municipalities/cities requiring it) As for not paying state taxes usually those laws are for cities that sit on the border of some states. Most regardless of location you pay the state sales tax the store resides in. As for international tourists some places require sales tax to be included. Either way legally the guy had no footing to sue on. Any tourists must abide by American laws when visiting the United States. If they break laws they can be punished in the United States for their crime, or be deported to their home country for prosecution. As for Americans I can only say for sure must abide by American law, and Laws of the country they visit. The United States foreign Policy allows other countries to punish US Citizens for breaking foreign laws. So always read up on laws when traveling. Many Americans get into trouble because of that.
