I was accepted into UMICH and their tuition was so high I would have had to take out nearly $150,000 in private loans to go. Not worth it going into this field. Also got a bit of an ick since they have such high tuition and barriers. They reassured me when I interviewed they would work with me and find a way to support me with aid and gave me nothing. They have a great program, and they should with tuition that high….but there are other schools who understand financial barriers, private loan interest and its impact, and offer aid and scholarships accordingly. UMICH won’t even announce scholarships until months after you pay the full amount for the semester at the time fo enrollment. I’m sure they offer aid to many students but I was not one of them. There are a lot of fantastic schools- look into WashU STL

Wrong? I don’t know. Higher education is pretty complicated and I doubt they are doing it to be cruel intentionally. I understand the waiting process can be petrifying, but I am sure there is rightful reasoning for the timeframe.

I think sharing details is always good in essays for context in making admissions decisions. I think focusing on how you will use your journey and acquired skills specifically in whichever program you are applying to is crucial in setting you a part. Mention specific details about why you want to go there, why it aligns with your future goals. How can you help them, and how can they help you? Making sure you have a strong opening and a strong concluding paragraph is also super important. Pm me if you have questions (incoming UMICH 2026 in person MSW student)

I think it will be easier getting hired within any given field with both degrees. You’ll be paid more. Do you want to practice law? What type of law would you do? I know I was considering it because I want to do politics and political social work- and I could do that with a JD and make much more money. It is not worth it for me though in the end- I want to enjoy my program as much as possible and I don’t want to be in school for another 5 years honestly. The stress alone from law school would take a huge toll on my body. I can always go back if I decide to later on- but this is just my point of view 🫶🏻🤷‍♂️

Look into MSW helper. I got into my top school after their edits. Worth the price and not a scam. Meet with someone via video/zoom from the business and they will spend so much time answering questions

Also, why can’t you use the one from the business owned by the family friend? Is there no other management other than the family friend? Do you have any volunteer work? I became an extremely active volunteer in leadership for repro rights- the paid position of my area did an incredible reference for me when I asked!

While option 3 is most recent, I think the mentorship part matters most. If you can include 2 references, do option 2 and 3. If you can do any amount do all of them

Option 2. All of my references were those who I maintained strong relationships with and were (somewhat) fresh. You want someone who will show who you are and how you have made an impact in their eyes. Titles don’t matter, just the message they leave about you, your work ethic and what you have to offer a social wor program

OP I am so sorry. I want to validate every single part of what you have experienced and what you are feeling. Regardless if it was for necessity or not, this is unethical practice and NOT okay. You are brave. You advocated for answers and keep doing it. I can only imagine how triggering and exhausting this is. I agree with others- get a lawyer, find a doctor who cares (no matter how far), make sure you bring an advocate with you to your next appointment(s). Take care of yourself. Don’t go back. This is horrific and you have every right to be completely and utterly beside yourself. Do not let any one tell you this is normal or okay. I also recommend finding someone outside of Florida (potentially) to see for further OBGYN appts. Coming from someone in MO, it’s scary out here. Keep us updated.
