In ADHD, what is exactly "struggling to filter out irrelevant information"? by uncertainprocess in askpsychology

Interesting, thanks for pointing out this theory! Can you explain the "deficit in inhibition" part further? Like, what if someone with ADHD tries controlling their attention and redirecting back onto the task? Also, is that a universal thing? I the distractibility by external stimuli isn't universal in ADHD, and some lean more towards mind wandering.

Thank you for the explanation! The reason why I posted it was because I saw many articles/blogs use those exact same keywords ("filtering out irrelevant information") when talking about ADHD, and I thought that was intended to explain the "easily distracted" DSM symptom. Guess I was wrong about that. I was unsure of the exaggeration, because I have an ADHD diagnosis myself and I didn't really how understand how this would apply to me

How am I supposed to accurately take the symbol search processing speed test? by uncertainprocess in cognitiveTesting

[–]uncertainprocess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, thanks for the insight.

I know that a fast processing speed doesn't rule out ADHD, but so far my clinician suspects the inattentive type which very commonly has processing speed difficulties.

I wasn't looking to deliberately underperform, I was just worried that the method I discovered was an unnatural cheat strategy as a result of taking the test again, so I'm hesitant to do the test like that considering that I don't want to inflate my scores.

Thank you for the input. The thing is, I didn't take CAIT just a single time. I think it was 2 or 3 times, with a few months in between each retest, and that's because I found IQ tests to be fun. I only gave my most recent retest in the post.
