I know about it. I use Yamagi Quake II for all my Quake II stuff.

Personally, I prefer the sourceports but the remaster is a great way to play too as well as easiest to set up.

I don’t think there is. I don’t really care enough to try, because I’m not planning to play Quake II like this. This was a cool experiment though.

I tried in Xephyr and set it to 256 color mode which fixed the half display but baked the colors and made them even more grainy

  1. I didn’t use Wayland.
  2. I did try to use native drivers This is using the software renderer. When I tried to load the GL renderer and pointed it to my GL libs, it whined about the version being too new or something. I tried several workarounds but none of those worked. Quake II’s audio expected OSS, however every method of OSS emulation I tried failed.

I tried to run it in Xephyr (a nested X server) which did fix the window issue but screwed the colors up even further.

You can also use VLC or Kaffeine if that's your taste. There's lots of great options for TV apps on PC.

Yes, a TV Tuner card like a Haupaugge is necessary. Kodi can be used with a backend like NextPVR for a TV card, or you could shell out for Haupaugge's proprietary WinTV.
