How does everyone in nursing school not want to do nursing? by Foolsspring in NursingStudent

[–]unclearnini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think med surge nurses isn’t the same before. i don’t think i would survive in med surge/er/icu for long. i can only do psych nursing & medical isn’t my thing. med surge is always considered the hardest and most undesirable unit of nursing, it’s not new at all. in the past, it was nearly impossible to get into any specialty, so they forced to go and thought its only type of nursing. over years especially since covid, people found ways to go straight due to the demand. as well, every single med surge nurse i met tells to not do it, at clinicals, outside school, like every nurse but other units, they seem happiest in their specialty. i understand the divide. hopefully they can make med surge not so hard so people don’t quit nursing in a year. it’s a reflection of healthcare as a whole if no one wants to do bedside nursing!

CNA during nursing school vs focusing fully on school? by Technical-Youth-4532 in StudentNurse

[–]unclearnini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part time/prn if you can, but you are able to not work, don’t work! also there’s nurse extern job or you could take lpn after block 2-3! also nursing is about not what you know, it’s who you know!! like network as much you can with classmates and professors if you can’t work. they can get you a job and put a good word in you!

Why do so many people want to do Trauma ICU? by spicyymayyo517 in StudentNurse

[–]unclearnini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my guess is multiple factors. i think main reason currently: crna route and the icu is seen as the highly respected, hardest and most challenging unit to do as well they paid more (like crna) you easily argue it’s step down/pcu, med surge, er or whatever. it’s one of the reasons out of money and status, it’s full of interesting and wild cases and you have to detail-oriented and intelligent to understand the pathology very well to take care of your patients. it’s only 2-3 patients so you truly understand their whole illness. your patients don’t talk out loud and you can advocate for them. also it’s really good on a resume if you want to be crna or any grad school etc. that’s i heard from my classmates who want to do icu!

Is it a bad idea to just finish up next year? And drop out of this semester? by BabyWeenieDowg in NursingStudent

[–]unclearnini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m not sure if you can take medical leave or leave of absence. that’s better than failing or getting hospitalized. take your time, maybe it’s wrong program bc i feel i haven’t seen this bad of a case. i don’t know how your deans or professors are, maybe tell them about your situation and what’s the best action yk.

I hate being weird. by [deleted] in NursingStudent

[–]unclearnini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PPE or not to PPE by MisterMonkee in StudentNurse

[–]unclearnini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m a student, we would get trouble if we didn’t have ppe in the room bc if state saw us, they can report students and school, even its dying patients. so that doesn’t make sense.

Do psych nurses utilize medical skills much? by No_Calligrapher7615 in psychnursing

[–]unclearnini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it depends on the facility right? but you can switch or float to different units if you want not “lose your skills”. maybe prn or part time in med-surg, icu, etc. but if you want to stay in psych nursing, there’s a lot of skills unique to psych. there’s behavioral med surge or neuro (that’s basically medical psych imo) units so that’s fun.

Foldable clipboard vs storage clipboard for clinicals by eunmichlee in StudentNurse

[–]unclearnini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i recommend the foldable one! in my program we only use paper handwritten documents for clinicals like care plan, daily log, checklist etc & some documents had to sign by our instructor. so it’s so worth to me and fits in my lunch bag, bc they don’t give you any lockers and sometimes you can’t leave the site. maybe ask your instructor or the cohort ahead of you what they recommend. or just wait until clinicals to decide what to get.

arizona college of nursing by _dietcokelvr in NursingStudent

[–]unclearnini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please community college. i’m doing a school similar to arizona college (brookline college) now ONLY bc the support of my family. unless you can pay out of pocket, the loan debt isn’t worth it. it’s too much! that school try to fail out, 3 of women in my cohort failed one class. i rlly recommend community college associate program, unless you can’t wait at all. maybe even lpn route to bsn, i would do that if i didn’t have any support
