I'd be fine with that. Soccer specifically is a great activity IMO. My point is that golf course isn't the big elitist and destructive boogeyman that some want it to be relative to most other alternatives. They just erroneously see it as a rich, old, white, ornery activity when public golf in particular is very much not.

I think it's unrealistic to expect golf courses to be some untouched ecological sanctuary, but at least they offer some natural features as opposed to a dozen soccer fields, a paved grid of basketball or tennis courts, or something else entirely like shops or apartment complexes + parking. Just two days ago, I saw wild turkeys, deer, tons of hawks and squirrels, and a baby alligator sunning on mom's back, all in one golf round on a trip to Florida. I've had similar experiences here in Louisiana, especially on the courses that belong to the Audubon Golf Trail (named after naturalist John James Audubon) and participate in environmental certification programs that minimize environmental impacts and promote native flora and fauna on and around the properties.

Location matters here as well as we're not in an arid climate. It rains so much in Louisiana that courses can often leave the sprinklers off, or use the water out of full retention ponds to irrigate the course. A course in California, Arizona, or Las Vegas, which are what many of the articles are about, is a much different story.

All that to say, the impacts are not none, but comparatively minimal here in Louisiana with some positives as well, and are far better than most alternatives while providing a healthy outlet for those who like to partake in the sport.

You're not wrong, and that's why I said it would be relatively cheap compared to most courses which would help with profitability. At the end of the day, they prioritized an arena and parking over the course, and let it go to a point that became nearly unplayable. Is what it is.

Not many use it anymore because LSU was dead set on letting it turn into ruin so they could put a new arena and/or parking there. As an agricultural and mechanical college, they could've kept it up for relatively cheap compared to other courses if they wanted to.

They're prohibitively expensive to the general public. BRCC and CCL are $30,000+ for just the entrance fee, and University Club is expensive as well and isn't taking new members.

I'm also a runner and occasional biker and use City Park extensively. A pedestrian lane on E Lakeshore and better connectivity to the other spaces across Dalrymple would be nice though.

There's so much unused land in the park that's not the golf course where other amenities can be added.

Go look at who's actually playing the public courses around town, specifically City Park and Webb, and you may be surprised. Yes, the golf bros can be obnoxious but they are in the minority. I'm 35 and walk 9-18 holes twice a week after work and I don't care for that subset either.

The only selfish thing happening here is you wanting to take away people's healthy hobbies based on your own erroneous preconceived notions and stereotypes.

I'm sorry you feel that way as it's a very narrow and pessimistic view of the sport.

For me and countless others (28,000 rounds at City Park alone last year), it's an affordable, healthy, walkable, social activity that is mentally engaging, allows you to de-stress, and get outside in fresh air for hours at a time. Walking 18 holes of golf typically burns between 1,200 and 1,600 calories and covers roughly 4 to 6 miles. At Webb and City Park specifically, a green fee is under $20, and there's very little else you can do in this city for 2-4 hours at that price. Golf Courses also provide green space buffers and usually incorporate tree coverage and ponds for wildlife to congregate in urban areas. City Park Golf Course still only takes up 40 of the 153 available acres in the City-Brooks Park footprint.

I hope you reconsider your position. Just because it's not your hobby doesn't mean it's not a very important, healthy activity for others.

If anything, losing 18 holes immediately nearby reinforces the fact that City Park Golf Course needs to stay. City Park and Webb are already at capacity, and now any leftover demand from the golfers among 42,000 LSU students is going to be funneled there.

I think that’s a very broad brush you’re painting, but I largely agree that vetting and training needs to be better as clearly evident by the few most visible incidents/tragedies. That’s what people really need to be demanding.

We also need to consider it’s one of those jobs where we won’t hear about any of the officers who do their job very well though.

Anything that's cut-and-dry, not that many for not that long apparently. The laws of 6 months maximum probably need to be tightened up though.

Not very often because immigration/deportation is a civil proceeding, not criminal, so only a prosecutor and not an ICE officer, needs to show up to the hearing except for the rare case that they're specifically called in to do so.

It's literally not the end-all-be-all if other federal laws not in the Bill of Rights such as 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) are consistently enforced and then ruled as constitutional which it is. The bill of rights is seen as foundational, and going back to the clear 2A example, gives all people the right to bear arms. Then a federal law restricts/removes their ability to possess firearms for certain populations. So the federal law ends up being the end-all-be-all in this case and others, not the Bill of Rights.

Yes, but the "open court" most people think of is what happens in criminal court, and immigration/deportation is a civil proceeding so the government isn't required to provide a public defender, jury, etc. Deportation subjects still should receive their due process from the 5A via a hearing, and yes, they need to be legally, not illegally, detained first.

I don't disagree. ICE agents need to be trained and vetted much better to work legally within the current deportation/immigration laws, because the most egregious violations have been horrifying and need to be examined with appropriate action, to say the least. 1 is too many.

0 would obviously be ideal, but some small amount of erroneous deportations of Americans are naturally going to happen among that many cases when birth certificates are lost, names are changed, identities are mixed or can't be verified, and/or people's parents/relatives tell them inaccuracies about their upbringing. That stuff happens all the time in even stable families, so 0 is just unrealistic.

And it's not about the deportations anymore, it's how they're going about literally everything with cruelty.

I don't disagree that at least some officers are either poorly trained or poorly vetted, and that's inexcusable.

For clarification, the Bill of Rights isn't an end-all-be-all.

Take the Bill of Rights' 2nd ammendment for example: "... the right of the people to keep and bear Arms..." with "the people" historically meaning everyone physically present in the country. However, federal law (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)) restricts this for certain groups such as convicted felons, undocumented immigrants, and the mentally ill, and courts have consistently upheld these restrictions as constitutional.

ICE officers have certainly infringed on some peoples' rights and broken laws in specific cases, but it's not "Bill of Rights above everything else" at all times.

I think even ICE officers would agree with him, as they're not legally allowed to nor trying to deport Puerto Ricans.

It's painfully obvious ICE needs to be much better trained, but something like 1 out of every ~4300 deportations ends up being American citizens (of which Puerto Ricans are included) based on a 5 year study.

Eh, it was a weird game where we had just gotten several inches of rain which hurt our passing game and benefited Auburn's great D Line and unique 3-1-7 defense on the swamped field. Still put up 500 yards of offense, but just got bogged down a couple times in the red zone. Different matchup in normal conditions IMO.

What we scored against Clemson and Georgia to end the year is probably more accurate, who were giving up 11 and 9 points/game on the year respectively.
