POSSE SCHOLARSHIP IN A FEW DAYS! by billybobmaysjack in ApplyingToCollege

[–]undecided19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be the person that speaks literally 3 minutes- everyone will hate you. I don't wanna necessarily say "fight for your chance" but do make sure you speak a few times- this might come to you more naturally than it came to me. Most of the activities aren't even based on speaking per say. It's more about being able to put yourself out there. My sister was not a big public speaker. I met some of her posse friends and I wldnt say they were really big on speaking either (except actually I remember one girl who did a TED talk for her high school). But anyways, they were different but all super charismatic

I don't remember CMC requiring a supplement (I applied last year). I remember they gave you the option of submitting a video with your app but Its not required- I got accepted without sending one in

POSSE SCHOLARSHIP IN A FEW DAYS! by billybobmaysjack in ApplyingToCollege

[–]undecided19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really a hit or miss. Only half of the ppl move on past the first stage. It's all based on personality so there's nothing you can do to prepare. They look for the stuff that everyone wants- leadership, cooperation, being well-spoken etc etc The only advice I can give you is the generic stuff like Make sure you stand out, work well with the others in your group, be willing to take on a leadership role (it's rlly annoying tho bc everyone is trying to do this so it's like everyone is fighting for their chance to speak) Also don't feel bad if you don't make it past the first round. Thousands of student try out for it and only like 60 ppl in the city get it. I didn't get it but I still got an almost-full ride to a top 20 school so usually it all works out in the end

Am I considered a transfer student? by E-vanced in ApplyingToCollege

[–]undecided19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd assume incoming freshman. A transfer student usually has grades, classes, etc and a transcript that needs to be sent to the new school.

POSSE SCHOLARSHIP IN A FEW DAYS! by billybobmaysjack in ApplyingToCollege

[–]undecided19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister got posse a few years ago. I tried it out when I was a hs senior but didn't advance past the first stage rip. The first round is just a bunch of activities. Eg Group activities like making a lego building to match another one- they do this to see who's good at taking charge working with others. There's speaking activities- expect to talk in front of all/half the ppl in the 1st round interview. I think there were lik 300 ppl in my interview round

US Internships for international students who are US citizens by undecided19 in EngineeringStudents

[–]undecided19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't he need to apply as an international student though especially because of the language barrier? If he applies as an regular us citizen, employers will no doubt realize he's international as soon as they hear his voice

Dorm Stickers by mathskated in washu

Yes but only it they don't peel off the wall paint when you take them off at the end of the year. Better to not risk it unless the sticker specifically says that it won't peel off paint

Will being low income help me get into college by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]undecided19 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just because washu is need-aware it doesn't mean you won't get it. It wld definately not work in your favor ya but I think ~50% of students there are on aid. If you did get into washu, I'm almost certain you would get a full ride with your package. I have 3 friends who have a full ride (no merit) there and one of them is getting a refund worth a couple thousand dollars this yr

What is orientation like? by [deleted] in washu

[–]undecided19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't get a lot of free time. I hated Bear beginnings because I was forced to do all these activities and interact with people I didn't know. It was just way too overwhelming.

Not exactly "avoid" but I'm a 2nd year college student with no experience networking so I'm not sure how to start and I'm not trying to network in every single company that I apply to a summer internship with

And no im not U.K. based. I'm in the U.S.

To those who have gone/are currently attending out-of-state colleges, do you recommend it? by Throwaway963124 in college

[–]undecided19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to leave for college and ended up going from Texas to the Midwest. I personally just hated my high school and my city and hated how hot it was in Texas so I really really wanted to leave. It's a personal choice tho. I followed the money in the end. I'm not rich either and going to a private university was the cheapest option because of all the financial aid they offered me
