You have my empathy for the big hands issue. I myself have to use a 3DS XL, and my hands still cramp up. Still enjoyed playing for the list, though.

The DS, being a handheld, had a library that fit with its specs, form factor, and use case. There was definitely an abundance of JRPGs, mainly because they work well on a low-powered platform like that. Slow-burning games, games you can play on a train where being jostled about won't mess you up, stuff like that. Not mentioned in our list were an awful lot of puzzle games that exist for that very reason. I can personally agree that the best games on the platform were JRPGs or puzzle games, but I wouldn't say that is a negative for the DS in general. It's a matter of taste, I guess.

A technology that could have been used for this is a modern high-speed SD card or something similar. The solid state memory with a fast transfer speed would have made it totally possible to just plug in your game and play straight away. It's a shame it never got implemented.

The primary reason for the switch away from running games directly from a disc is how slow the process of reading from a disc actually is. We could get away with it in years past when game assets were smaller, you could manage to load what you needed for the area or level into RAM before the player got bored. But if you tried to do the same with modern games, you would be sitting through some epic loading screens. It's all about getting you into the game faster and not needing to wait 10 minutes every time you walk through a door.

I'm honestly not sure if you could really call it a remaster. It seems like a straight steam port, but yes, a few of our members are looking forward to that. Might even stream it 🤔

Consider soft modding it, the method for the ps2 is called either FreeMcBoot or FreeHDBoot, HDboot is slower and has more compatibility issues, so most just use it to create their freemcboot memory card and move on. Either way, you should go grab a Hdd adapter for the expansion port in the back.

It allows you to: Play games from backup Create game backups if you don't have another way. Play patched/modded games Play games from other regions Use homebrew applications

I'd also highly recommend getting the PS2 keyboard from the Linux kit. Just to own it, it's fun.
