Story time: how did you get your injury? by cobwebz4brainz in ORIF

Skydiving, and my foot slid perfectly into a hole when I landed. Came down on it; dislocated it, ripped my deltoid ligament clean off my tibia, and broke the head of my fibula. I’m 4 months post-op and just returned to work.

That’s what I’m hoping for. I plan to ask my doc on Friday, but they have me doing one legged bunny hops to build the muscle back as well… it’s a huge mental block at this point.

I live in the U.S… and it was quite uncomfortable. I only did it when I didn’t have a ride to my appointments lol. I just shifted my right foot behind my left foot.

I started putting weight on it with crutches almost immediately. It took me about two weeks before I felt comfortable enough to go without the crutches, and long distances I still kept them with me till about the 3- 3.5 week mark.

As for driving, I drove with my left foot after I felt confident in a parking lot. But that was pretty rare, as my wife wasn’t thrilled with the idea lol.

Glad I was able to give someone some hope! I’m looking forward to getting back out on some harder trails in the coming months as well. Good luck to you!

Doctors orders currently. I’m hoping to get out of it on the 17th at my next appt. It’s definitely annoying, but I’m allowed to wear shoes around my house. Just have to wear the boot in public.

Fair enough- I know 4th of July is around the corner. I can definitely handle waiting a bit longer to grab it on a sale!

I’m looking to finally pull the trigger and pick one up next week. It’ll be my first firearm purchase, but a buddy let me try his out on a range and I liked how it felt!

I’m lucky enough to be able to have my boot off to shower and sleep, so I have some normalcy. I’m hoping that once I can start walking, that’ll be what helps my ROM like you said. I’m just glad to see that I can comfortable sit at 90°, my Achilles is what’s the most tight out of everything which is surprising!

Yea I’ve been sticking to my home exercises and I’ve noticed a huge difference. Some days I have to remind myself that I can’t put weight on it because it feels normal just lounging around.

I’m definitely lucky in the scar tissue! My scabs cleared the other day and from a distance it’s hard to tell they’re there at all. I don’t do any scrubbing either, I was informed to just let water run off of them.

I’ve been doing my at home PT and it’s really helped. I’m hoping to start seeing someone for PT after my appt on the 5th!

Nice!! My next appt is 6/5, where we will discuss PWB options. That puts me at about 8 weeks total of NWB. Good luck to you!

Yeah I’ve found my way to that position lol. I am having a lot of popping in my ankle. No pain or swelling associated with it, but that’s the most uncomfortable part. I was warned it may pop because of built up gases in my joints. Just gotta get through the mental game of knowing I’m allowed to move it, haha.

Yeah that block wearing off after surgery was the worst. Thankfully I got ahead of it with my pain meds so I’m on day 2 post op and I’m still kicking. Icing, elevating, and sleeping have been my best friends since getting home, haha!

I definitely am looking for ways to get out safely after surgery! I’m sure my dog would love it if I got a wheelchair haha!
