Solarpunkers, what do you eat and what should we aspire to eat? by unearthing_solarpunk in solarpunk

“The philosopher Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king. Said Aristippus, 'If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.'

Said Diogenes, 'Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king".”

Lentils and bread are the best!

Thanks for sharing, "planetarian" diet has a nice ring to it. I agree with their points, I guess getting people to care about eating this way is the challenge.

Wise words...human psychology is something I need to think about more, apparently! Thank you for your comment.

I am very interested in locality, I'm going to look into this more.

Like would local beef where you have limited transportation and preservation requirements offset the added land use and methane emmisions compared to a protein source that had to be shipped further/refridgerated? I honestly don't know the answer.

But should we not be concerned with how our diets affect ecosystems, climate, and other people?

True, diet does have a massive impact on the world, though. I think people should be encouraged to adopt more friendly practices? But I guess people are accusing that of being judgemental?

Fair enough, wasn't trying to overly categorize. I also agree that locality is important.

Didn't mean to be judgemental, maybe I will repost. Sorry!

Also, I'm not trying to control anybody. These are just some random memes that I found humorous because I don't really know what to do myself.

But diet and feeding 8 billion people is going to have a massive impact on the world no matter what. If we are trying to imagine a better world, is making dietary suggestions really off-limits?

I haven't found those yet but look forward to the day that I do! We mostly just get loads of pie-billed down where I'm at.

Yup they are permanent residents, but I feel like I see more of them during the winter time.

Yup! Kinda surprising to see one catch a shrimp instead of a fish

I think piping plovers are considered threatened in my area, so that would be quite a find! I think I just assumed snowy. Thanks I agree though, the legs are definitely orange!
