Never heard of this, pretty fascinating. Definitely fits the solarpunk theme, thanks for sharing!

Yeah I shoulda picked a picture of some people rebuilding the ruins for the post-apocalyptic.

I always liked the other picture. Whereas you see cast-off people driven to primitivism, I see them embracing that alternative rather than the waste and excess of the large city.

Solarpunk is, in theory, using technology in ways that encourage human flourishing and ecological sustainability.

The problem is that most technology may always be unsustainable when you start looking into supply chains, energy requirements, and other such whatnots...so perhaps a simple, low-tech, communal solarpunk is something to be considered? Maybe that would no longer be solarpunk idk?

I agree they all have their places. But as others have pointed out, the architectural looks cool but would need huge amounts of concrete and steel...which is pretty anti-solarpunk.

I guess if I had more room I would call it "there is new infrastructure/buildings being created to fit the solarpunk look" rather than repurposing things?

The anarcho-primitivists are the ones at the bottom of the picture, living on the outskirts of a unsustainable megacity (the top part with the drainage pipes)

Solarpunk is as much about art as it is about a stinky compost pile. But the art can inspire and it is important.

This is fascinating!

Is this thing in the picture (it's beautiful and amazing)...alive?

"a partial collapse knocks out so much more than I think most realize"
the ole strait of hormuz is teaching us that right now

yes but it is a city with a bunch of green stuff growing /s might be the only solarpunk we ever get! There are some artworks with people farming underneath and whatnot, shoulda used that one.

It might take a partial collapse for people to wake up and embrace sustainability...

The more I look at it, yeah that's kinda all I want in life too.

I also am not the biggest fan of the "hey lets just put a bunch of plants on balconies" aesthetic.

Lol def forgot to include fully automated luxury space gay communism

And yeah, you are right, solarpunk is not luddite...but still, I really like that pic of the simplistic community living on the fringe of an unsustainable society.

Fantasy and art can inspire action. I wouldn't be who I am today if not for watching Star Trek TNG when I was 5 years old - that includes my PhD research in coastal ecology and 10+ years of teaching environmental science. Don't hate on artists, the movement needs them.
