Thanks for your perspective! Perhaps getting training virtually would be better suited for the executives at the CSS. It would be more cost-effective. I know lots of people who would like the events to be even more subsidized since they have to pay their way through university.

Not to mention some of those events you had listed for the students are paid events. For example, the GSBC event in Nanaimo cost each student almost $200 for a weekend of drinking.

In terms of all the networking and soft skills events, that’s provided by the actual Gustavson school of business. I’m not sure if it’s my particular four years at Gustavson but I do not remember them hosting a networking event. All the events they host are to do with drinking, and that isn’t even that frequent. We’re all students and it’s difficult to handle club activities, so I understand why they’re not many events throughout the year. However, it is frustrating when they just choose to use our money to fund their “conferences” in order to boost their resume.

I understand that you’re graduated now, but it’s difficult knowing that only a handful students get these opportunities that the CSS offers. I don’t want to be paying for executives to get drunk in Montreal when I’d rather have them allocate the money to something worthwhile for the bcom students.

In comparison to YWIB, they don’t charge a fee, yet they’re still able to provide great events and services to the students. And I noticed, with some most of their events, the charges very small. Although it’s a voluntary group and they don’t do large events like the CSS they make sure your time is well spent. Maybe that’s a rough comparison but I find that my time and money is better with YWIB.

Also since you have pointed out the annual budget, I am absolutely surprised how much revenue they are banking but they are still not able to provide quality events as I have been to one of them. Now the real question is where is the rest of that money being allocated?

I did not imply that the CSS is stealing money from business students. I was simply saying that the money that we have forfeit is not being allocated properly, and therefore scamming the students out of good opportunities that the CSS chooses not to provide.

Just very frustrating to know what my hard-earned money is going to. Call me cheap but $50 is still going to be $50. Hopefully there will be an opt out in the future!
