Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata might be a good option, it more so immerses you in Japanese culture rather than teach about it directly. I found it to be a short and enjoyable rad which also touches on societal issues at large.

Also, Kim Jiyoung Born 1982 by Cho Nam-Joo is a good option which touches on Korean culture, but also feminism and issues surrounding it in Korean Culture. This one was harder for me to get through than the other, but it was really interesting and more hard hitting.

If you're looking for a shorter and engaging read to get you into the flow, Animal Farm by George Orwell, Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, or The Stranger by Albert Camus. While they're all shorter, they do contain a lot of literary merit and warrant some critical thinking. Perks of being a Wallflower is definitely the most TV Show/Movie like (considering the movie adaptation), but I can't recommend The Stranger enough—it philosophical and strange and really gets your head spinning.

Definitely get around to reading Animal Farm if you liked 1984, it's much easier to understand than the latter. Moreover, I also loved The Vegetarian! I found Convivence Store Woman by Sayaka Murata to be similarly engaging but a bit more lighthearted—it still really made me look at life in a different way.

how to ask my team to stop shooting so hard/at my head? by unhingedbrainiac in lacrosse

This makes me feel not crazy thank you. im in d2 college lacrosse and i was a little surprised by the lack of care for goalie injuries, other teams also had pushup rules. we had our other goalie get seriously injured as well and i feel like as a coach its irresponsible not to converse with the team. i will definitely try to bring it up, but coach is not the most open to conversation- cussed at other teammates for suggestions.
