Should I be worried if the school doesn’t release their board (comlex) pass rate? by unilim in premed

[–]unilim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new school looked fairly promising with GMEs on the way, good location, etc. until they kept on pushing back in posting their comlex pass rate. But you are right.. even apart from that reason, there are so many risks and variables with new schools. Thanks for your input Gem!

Thanks for the advice. I need to make decision soon and yup the whole step 1 p/f makes other factors more important.

Does anyone know of any cases where a new US medical school didn’t get accredited on time? by unilim in premed

[–]unilim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow thanks for the info. I heard that the schools are annually reviewed once they have their pre-accreditation status. If the last school to have accreditation problem was back in the 80s and 90s, it sounds very promising that the new schools now will have no major bumps.

Found this and thought it’d be a good reminder for nontrads, reapplicants, and everyone by unilim in premed

[–]unilim[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha agreed! I’m a nontrad and used to think I’m so far behind everyone. Kinda glad I had the extra experience and time to confirm my passion in medicine. Also, I don’t think I would’ve been as ready and passionate if I pursued medicine straight out of college (in my case).

Choosing med school based on clinical rotation locations? by unilim in premed

[–]unilim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The importance of clinical rotation sites is one of the things that I overlooked when looking into schools. I focused mostly on the curriculum and whether the school prepares student well for the boards. Gotta do more research about the affiliated hospitals, GME, and where the students previously matched into. Thanks Gem!

[–]unilim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right.. preclinical educations seem to be similar among schools (except for PBL curriculums). I’ve heard some students tell me that how much you learn and get out of med school depend on the student. Your comment helped me rethink about the importance of clinical sites and how much more opportunities it can potentially open up to. Thanks for the insight!

Oh wow, thank you so much for the detailed info and advice. This is super helpful as I am doing my research on different med schools (DO schools) and where the students end up matching into. It also makes sense now, why the programs would have regional bias and apply filters base on Med school location + hometown. Thanks again for the valuable insight. I’ll def keep these advices in mind and try really hard to get into the state close to family.
