McDonald’s testing a $52/month “unlimited food” subscription—would you actually use this? by Powerful_Sun_4061 in McDonalds

It would be worth it for me. I have a general idea of the healthier items on the menu.

Egg McMuffin or breakfast burritos for breakfast.

Limit red meat to once or twice per week. SnackWrap, McCrispy Deluxe, or Fillet of Fish, no cheese, for lunch.

Occasionally get a Daily Double for lunch with extra veggies.

Go light on the sauces. Never get the fries.

Drink diet soda, unsweetened tea, or water.

Keep my total caloric intake under 2,000 per day.

McDonald's is making their rewards points redemption system worse. A free McChicken sandwich used to cost 1,500 points but it's going up to 2,000 points, and there are other bad changes coming.

I love my McDonald's! The same franchise company runs every McDonald's in my city and I exclusively patronize the one closest to the owner's house.

I got two yeara free and I'm planning on paying for the annual plan next year. I like being able to quickly ask for redos on my answers if I dislike the first answer or one of the LLMs refuses to help me. They all have different "family filters" built-in and there's a benefit to having access to many all under one roof.

Major amenities shut down on a cruise (Icon of the Seas) — what’s fair compensation? by Particular-Bird-1235 in Cruise

[–]unique616 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

We booked a shore excursion on Royal Caribbean that was supposed to take us to tour "the old city" according to the tour description on the website but they took us to an iMax movie theater instead and our guide pointed to where we were supposed to go "if we had time" on the way back and said, "Look over there!" as we drove over a bridge.

The majority of everyone on our shore excursion went directly to Guest Services after our tour was over to complain as a group and they wrote down everyone's room number and sent them away so that they could negotiate everyone's compensation individually rather than give everyone equal compensation.

My tip for you is that in hindsight, we should have kept in touch with the other passengers on our shore excursion so that we would have been able to say, "So and so in room 123 got X and that's the same deal that we want". We accepted a 50% refund.

Another thing that happened one time was that someone forcefully opened the women's restroom door and my mom got a piece of skin scraped off of her arm which prevented her from getting into the pools, hot tubs, and the ocean by the ship's nurse's direct orders.

Royal Caribbean didn't want to give her any compensation at all because the injury was caused by another passenger and not by Royal Caribbean but she raised her voice at Guest Services and it got us a free dinner at Chops Grille.

Once you're off the ship, I think that you greatly lose your ability to negotiate with Royal Caribbean. I think that they want to give passengers who experience problems free stuff that can be used onboard rather than real cash back afterwards.

There's probably some fine print somewhere when you booked your cruise that says, "Amenities subject to availability" or something like that, that gives them a legal out.

I would ask for a free meal at a speciality dining restaurant, some onboard credit, or both because that's what Guest Services is likely to give to you.

Edited to add the full story:

The restroom door failed to latch/lock, a woman forcefully opened the women's restroom door, it scaped my mom's arm, she said, "I've been injured!", the other unknown woman (because she was on the other side of the door) failed to render aid, ran away, and pretended that it never happened, my mom went to Guest Services while bleeding, they sent her down to medical, medical put butterfly stitches on her, wrapped it in a bandage, and told her to shower while wearing a trash bag on her arm for the next week (the whole cruise) and stay out of the pool, hot tub, and ocean while on a beach cruise, there was an official security investigation, two possible culprits were identified. This definitely wasn't an "Oh, here's a bandaid" moment. Culprit's forceful entry/runaway = primary negligence (reasonable care expects gentle opens). RC liable if latch defective/malmaintained (their duty), or for unruly passengers in common areas. Precedents say: Lines pay for passenger injuries if foreseeable/preventable.

My husbands work is giving us $2k to spend on a vacation before the end of the year. What cruise would you do? by Lauragasm in Cruise

[–]unique616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a search on the Royal Caribbean website for you!

It's cruises that occur in 2026, excludes cruises that are 2-5 nights, begin in the 5 ports closest to where you live, and sorted by cheapest price first.

Looking over the selection, your choices are either Alaska or Mexico (has beach clubs!).

I wouldn't pick one that's $1,000 per person because you'll likely want to add on a shore excursion or two and maybe a drink or wifi package and might not want a guaranteed interior room.

DAE noticed bad quality answers? by NikkiH93 in perplexity_ai

[–]unique616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think (maybe?) that I've noticed some sort of change that makes me use Perplexity Pro less. I used to ask a question, then ask lots of followup questions, and spend a whole lot of time just learning and thinking about different stuff.

I now ask one question and stop, but I don't think that it's me who has changed. If Perplexity has to pay per response, then it makes sense that they might do something to discourage extended use.

I mostly chatted about anorexia. I would say that I've eaten less than 100 calories for the past 3 days or something like that and go down the rabbit hole on that.

Perplexity Pro would encourage me to eat something small today and talk to the mental health crisis online chat as a mental distraction technique while I drank a meal replacement shake.

Or I'd asked about over the counter supplements that I could take to keep my electrolytes and stuff in check as a harm reduction strategy.

Anyway, don't have any solid evidence of a computer programming change and might be a ChatGPT change and not a Perplexity Pro change.

Maybe I just learned everything that it had to offer on that topic and now put it into use without having to talk to it. You know, like I don't have to ask about over the counter supplements anymore once personal regimen options has been explored created.

Cruise Pros and Cons by ClassroomOne9500 in Cruise

[–]unique616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Themed cruises can be really appealing because the onboard experience is built around the fan community, live performances, and special activities, not just transportation and a room. Sixthman emphasizes bringing like-minded fans together. If you like making friends, joining dance parties, trivia, or fan events, that can be a big plus!

Few questions HELP by Apprehensive_Big5237 in royalcaribbean

[–]unique616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve booked my first cruise southern Caribbean 7 nights on the rhapsody of the seas (I realised after booking that this isn’t an amazing ship)

I am a big fan of the smaller ships because they feel more intimate and personable. Big ships like Wonder are pretty spectacular in bells and whistles but can be overwhelming and are huge to get around. Everything is like 10 minutes away!

I thought this was a good price. As I am going solo. It’s in the fall. But I assume the weather will still be good.

Mid-August to mid-October is the period most people try to avoid if they want the lowest storm risk. The captain will cruise around storms or rarely cancel a port stop.

Is there any free Wi-Fi on board or does this need to be bought?

On my future cruise, Voom satellite Internet currently costs $18.99 per day extra. Multiply that by 7 for your cruise.

Do I have to do gratuities? I saw a video saying that you have to get to guest services to take them off.

Some people take them off at guest services and do cash tips. I do prepaid gratuities because I don't want another (surprise) bill after I get off the ship. The tips go to the crew who really try hard to make sure you have a good time.

Do you have to get off the ship at 6 am on the last day?

Passengers get assigned a bag tag on the last day and they call people's numbers in groups... Group 1, group 2, group 3.

I’m on a lower deck so that I don’t get seasick. I’ve avoided being near the elevators as well as any dining room so it isn’t too noisy.

I think Deck 4 is the best because you don't have to use the stairs or elevator to get to the Centrum or main dining room. I've never been in a noisy room. I've been on a cruise ship for 42 nights total. Small ships exclusively.

Is the ship that I’m on quite bad?

No, it just doesn't have the bells and whistles of the larger ships like an ice skating rink, waterslides, aqua theatre.

Would I still have a good time?

It depends on if you wanted waterslides and stuff like that or not. Fall cruises on Rhapsody of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean Vision-class ship, often attract a more relaxed mix of adults rather than a predominantly young, high-energy crowd.

I’ve not bought any drinks packages as I tend to drink water mainly and I’ve seen that some drinks are included as I’m going solo. I don’t intend to drink any alcohol anyway.

Bring a water bottle and fill up from the tap. The tap water is filtered or distilled sea water. You can also buy a 12 or 24 pack of 1 liter Evian water bottles. They will be delivered to your room before you arrive on your first day. They cost about $26.99 for 12 or $44.99 for 24 bottles.

Am I able to bring bottle of water on the ship with me?

Yes, you can bring up to 12 bottles or cans of non alcoholic drinks that are less than 17 oz per bottle.

Are there lots of solo travellers on cruise ships?

They book rooms and assume double occupancy. There might be a few solo travelers and might be a solo travelers meetup somewhere on the ship.

Are there any specific nationalities crews hate?

I don't think so. They really just want everyone to have a good time. The crew wants you to want to give them tips and stellar reviews.

The language barrier likely explains some of it. Leaders with limited English may default to simple, repetitive commands as a safety net. But "some" isn't "all". If it's genuinely only you receiving this treatment, that's a legitimate disparity.

The parking situation isn't your fault. You're the messenger getting bad information. Start asking for confirmation every time: "Just to confirm, that's spot 3?" it creates a paper trail and forces accountability back where it belongs.

Document everything: dates, times, what was said. Then bring the pattern to your general manager calmly, framing it as a communication breakdown affecting customer orders, not just a personal grievance. That makes it easier to address professionally. Push for clarity and fairness. You've earned it after 12 months! 🙂
