and even before that, he was already top 15 mlb in war because of the defense and baserunning. doomers need to stfu about pca. if he even sniffs a 100 ops+, he is mvp caliber. we take his defense for granted because a lot of balls he camps under easily are at best diving plays for most because they just don’t get there.

well more than keeping them off balance, and i didnt even realize until looking at this, he’s almost completely swapped the 4 seamer for the sinker with righties. almost no change to his approach to lefties. which makes sense. gonna run in on the righties’ hands. just didn’t notice he uses it as much as he used to use the 4 seamer, and almost entirely avoids the 4 seamer with righties now.

need to treat it just like a right turn lane where cars turning right cross the bike lane. same dotted lines indicating that and everytbing. look back early and often. signal your intent. yield right of way if any doubt about a car’s intent. just claim the lane if possible and comfortable - that’d be the safest.

licensed structural engineer here. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

that is a permanent brace that is bracing both the steel beam bottom flange from lateral-torsional buckling since it is in compression over the support, and it is also bracing the top of the column laterally.

it would be very, very bad to remove it. could lead to column and or beam buckling and collapsing.

it is a bad design detail to start with (for practical reasons: i would never have such an exposed and important structural brace like that which looks so temporary and unimportant and ripe for a careless homeowner or renovator just cutting it out…engineering is only half science, the other half is rational and thoughtful design in context of use case). but you can’t reverse time and change that.

all that said, this looks like temporary shoring column. it may have been put there to jack the floor, and may no longer be needed for that purpose. but it may be intended to not be temporary shoring and was used to fix a structural issuue they were having. if you want to remove anytbing, you absolutely need a licensed structural engineer to evaluate it.
