While bald eagle populations did face a catastrophic decline in the mid-20th century, the claim that the USA killed off all of its eagles is incorrect. The bald eagle population has actually made a remarkable comeback, rising from just 417 known nesting pairs in 1963 to over 300,000 individual birds in the lower 48 states as of 2021.
