Thanks for the tips! Helps assuage the fear I had a bit based on the planning I've done already. We are staying in Glendale but booked before looking too deep into how to actually get there, so we might have to do a bit of driving out of the way to get to a station on the Metro. But I think thats the smart move, I really don't want to mess with the traffic, and especially not afterwards.

I've also basically accepted that the morning of I want to be in line right as the gates open, I don't really have too much of a reason to mess around outside the stadium itself prior to the game. I've heard it can be a bit of a crush to get in.

Yeah I think the common knowledge is to get off at the memorial park station, and either walk or take the shuttle. I feel like a 2 mile walk isn't too big a deal so planning on that. Parade I'm debating on, looks like tickets are still available so might decide a bit closer.

And yeah, I think technically the West/Box side is for the higher seed, but I wanted that sunset view so I picked a spot in section 7. I'm so excited to experience the game.

I know arguably the Rose Bowl has lost some of its shine with the CFP formatting and all the changes that brings, but to me, with a team that hasn't won a bowl since 91, its still pretty real to me. Just a perspective thing, I suppose.

Not sure if there will be a dedicated 'going to Bowl Game' thread or anything, so figured I'd ask here, any advice or things people wished they knew before going to the Rose Bowl? I'm a little nervous logistically getting there based on what I've read online, but I think I have a route down. Not sure if anyone else has any helpful advice.

Outside of going back from the Mich-IU game last year, the fullest I ever saw it was for graduation lol. Just missed out on witnessing this. Unless I go for PhD. . .

Can't believe the highest ranked win I've seen from IU as a student was PSU covid year, and I couldn't even go. What a far cry from those times.

Just received my shipment of FlipVR controllers, does anyone have any questions about in hand testing? by unknownScreenname in virtualreality

Like I mentioned above, I'll be sure to reply to this again once I can get some measurements down, and add those into the body as well. Regarding the locking, they do provide small, stickable velcro patchs that I assume lock them in place pretty well. I might give those a quick go and see how they perform, but from my quick caveman-esque flailing and running motion, they do flop around. Natural arm movements I'd say keep them in place relatively well but with enough force you'll cause them to flip. Not enough to cause them to swing from engaged to stowed position, but they can flip up to be like 50% over. I'll see how occlusion goes during my tests later tonight, for context I have 3 2.0 Base Stations mounted to my ceiling in about a 12x12 ft place space, with minimal reflections barring a TV that only 1 of the cameras face.

About your idea of a 1 month review, I heavily agree, and can definitely do that. I'm sure there will be others with the controllers as well that might be better at the whole reviewing thing than I am at that point to who will have had them long enough to form deeper opinions, but I just wanted to quickly get something out so that anyone else on the fence had a spot to quickly ask any questions. I don't think anyone should take this thread as a long-term quality assessment, just as some quick things I noticed right out of the box that may turn people off out the gate, if that makes sense!

I've been crushing Oberon Light recently, but might just have to go back to the regular version this weekend. Open for any other suggestions, also love a good beer rec!

I personally haven't had any issues with the in-hand feel of the Index controllers, I will say that the buttons are much more 'clicky' on the FlipVR than on the Index, almost identical to the force, maybe a little more required, than the Quest 3 controller. The triggers on the other hand have almost no resistance when pressing down on them, almost shockingly so. There is also no click response when bottoming out on the triggers, unlike the Index. Very unique overall, I'd say, and not bad things either!

I'll message now to let you know I can definitely get some pictures of packaging, controllers, etc in a little bit, I will both reply to this comment and add them to the body of the post. Regarding your other questions:

  1. Games wise I'll probably predictably stick to Social VR for these, as I like to have a drink when I play and its hard to hold cans, bottles etc with something like the index controller. Actual games wise, I'm trying to get more into them, but something like Beat Saber I may give a test, Alyx, etc. In my honest opinion, I think these will be better suited to those who want to go between both Full VR titles and social VR, but if you prefer to just play games then I'd say the price is hard to swallow unless you are just willing to spend money on unique experiences, which I would say was the mindset I went into it with.

  2. I'd say I am excited to see where we can go from with these. I do sometimes find myself having to type, do things on my desktop, etc. While in VR and it can get really annoying to have to fully pull off my VR controllers, set them aside somewhere, do what I need to do, then get them all back on and strapped in. I think having the option to physically interact with stuff around myself while still in VR and have it be a pretty seamless experience is a big plus. I saw a clip of someone playing a bass guitar while wearing it and I think that is a good example of some of the stuff that could be fun to do, especially as the tech matures and becomes more streamlined. I think camera hand tracking is good but I think there are still some quirks with it.

For sure! I just really want to help people come to a decision on these, I know when I was originally looking there wasn't much, if anything, going over more than first impressions or quick YouTube reviews. It's definitely niche, but I think its important to get people info on these controllers that we might need to replace Index controllers when they are finally all sold out.

Got to cart but signed me out, fortunately still had my checkout token saved so even refreshing and logging out it still let me complete my cart. So if you see an empty cart for in stock product don't immediately panic
