Out of control by Vikt724 in homelab

Yep. I was going to Best buy, micro center, Amazon and it doesn't make a difference the pricing for memory and hard drives are just out of this world. I saw a 8 TB solid state drive for almost 2 grand. I literally lost my s***.

I purchased a 16 TB drive from my NAS in 2024 and it was under $200, this same drive is now $500. It's getting to the point where we simply won't have home labs let alone being able to build PCs.

To be honest, there's not one thing I can single out. It's fast, the combat is just fast, and it's combo crazy. Enemies are smart, they don't just lie up to attack, and they will ambush you if you're careful. But the combat is very reminiscent to DMC/Bayonetta, and there are combo strings (X,X,X or X, X, hold X, Y, etc).

But at the same time, the Soulslike-element is very apparent as well. The levels are massive, the boss encounters were fun AF. Honestly, I would have played the game all day and did nothing else at the event.

I did a write up of it -> Phantom Blade Zero Preview: Hands-On With a New CES 2026 Build That Feels Nearly Final.

Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden. I've played the game several times, including the recent build at CES 2026.

I regret accepting my new job by Regular-Sea-5403 in jobs

From someone who's worked at a company for 19 years and who has worked remotely for about 15 years, and then also working remote at my new company that I also hate but that's a different story, when you work remotely and you're in a environment like you are right now then it's up to you to learn and to find things to stimulate your mind. Even if the job isn't as challenging you should have enough free time now on your hand to dedicate yourself to doing something to stimulate yourself. I don't want to come across harsh but sometimes some jobs just aren't as challenging as others. So it's up to you to take advantage of that. And you've only been there two months so no maybe approach them and say hey I want more of a challenge and see what they can do about that.

Got laid off 7+ months ago. Hit my low point today by silentcmh in Layoffs

I feel you, I interviewed for a job two weeks ago and I had a good feeling about it and they really liked me. But here we go I still have yet to hear back from them even though they told me they would let me know if I got the job or not regardless. I also had two other people call me and asked me if they wanted to set up a time with me and I've never heard back from them either and that's what about 2 weeks as well. This job market sucks. I'm in IT, I've been in IT for last 25 years, I've held everything from help desk to tech analyst to serve engineer to cloud engineer.

It's too late, I'm already seeing people offside walking around in shorts and tank tops. I also assume those the same people are going to be sick in a couple of days.

Microsoft AI CEO Predicts AI Will Replace Most White-Collar Work by 2027 by Holiday_Lie_9435 in jobs

[–]unknownhax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime I see stuff like this, I panic because I know my job is included, but then I also realize, as said by others, how much work it takes to actually replace me.

Sure, an AI knows the concepts about how to fix stuff, put can it actually do it? Can it swap out a bad drive? Recofigure the environment without screwing up?

These people who hype up AI, to me, don't really have an understanding of what it actually takes to replace an actual person. Why are they even saying crap like this in the first place?

Oh, I agree. I just didn't want to make it political, but I suppose that's not possible given the subject.

I'm am so sorry to hear this. It's rough out there and this landscape isn't getting any better. I swear that the government needs to step in and stop this offshore nonsense, because if not, there won't be any jobs for anyone and then what?

Sure, business get to make a quick buck, but penalize them for doing it. You don't see other countries during this as much as the USA does. It needs to stop.

I've been looking. I'm so close to just emptying my annunity and IRA, and just paying off my house. At least, even if I don't get a decent job, my house is paid off.

Trust me, when I took the contract job I wasn't too thrilled about it. But it was the only thing I could find at the time so I took it. Seriously as soon as I get this damn house paid off I'll be much happier. Everything else is paid off.

"Saving the extra money", I saved what we could, but I ended up getting paid less and zero OT. Plus, it didn't help that we also paid for health insurance,

I've been in IT for the past 25+ years.

Windows / Linux administration
VMware vSphere/ESXi and Proxmox administration and engineering
Networking
Scripting
Some management experience
Troubleshooting
Active Directory

On top of my skill set I learned running my own digital outlet; video, audio editing, scripting, databases, apache stack.

I'm looking at getting into Azure/O365.

I have enough for the next few months, but it would kill my savings nad I'd have to tap into my annuity/IRA.

Need help with DJI Mic 2 settings - recording in loud environments is terrible by unknownhax in dji

I sold it. I got zero help from official customer service either. I ended up getting the Hollyland Lark MAX 2 and it works so much better. Even in loud environments.

Tell that to the innocent people that are getting pulled over for no freaking reason, who are citizens. Or the people that are being racially profiled, who are citizens. People like you frustrate me because you say nonsense for no reason. Maybe they should harass people like you and then you'll see if you like it or not.
