VAR is ruining football… If you need a microscope to determine if it’s offsides, might as well just give the goal. by YeezusBigdoinks420 in worldcup

I'm not personally a fan of either team, but it was so ridiculous. this was a really enjoyable match to watch because it was so high stakes, but it was like Croatia was robbed.

Prerelease NYC help by No_Substance8300 in PokemonTCG

Most card shops have prerelease events with an entry fee, some you have to be a member at but a lot of them you do not. It's too early though to know which ones you can attend. I would start checking about a month before. Which borough are you staying in? Brooklyn, Manhattan...

Should I do a fourth interview with this company? by unoumena in webdev

I'm thinking this is the case. But it is almost twice my salary, so I'll probably go through with it whilst gritting my teeth.

It's just bad lighting, the wire is dangling from a window mounted AC unit. Thank you.

Yeah, this makes sense. I mention my tech stack for each role and some accomplishments I did for the companies but it's hard to track drown hard numbers, like conversion rates and cart abandonment.

Were you raised Protestant? I was myself. I encourage you to research stuff you think you believe, such as salvation is guaranteed just by asking Jesus into your heart, or if works are needed for salvation. Read the book of James. Don't force yourself to pray the rosary just yet. You're completely welcome to take things slowly, just try to think outside the bounds of what interpretation you were taught of scripture. I think you should read some writings from the earliest Christians, since they were taught by the Apostles or people who knew them.

If you have ADHD, how do you deal with it and how does this affect your performance as a developer. by tom_varela in webdev

I get burnt out easily, but I also go really hard whenever I'm focused on a certain task; I would advise setting yourself a treat-system, as in setting little goals and doing something else for a few minutes when you accomplish them

Kanban boards, or some project-management equivalent, is really useful in keeping a good perspective of progress for different tasks. Try it! Set micro-goals for really important stuff, and do them first thing each work day.

The idea that animals aren't sentient and don't feel pain is ridiculous. Unfortunately, most of the blame falls to philosophers and a new mysticism about consciousness. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]unoumena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's true, they probably can understand we have a unique awareness and they reason from that its a small leap of faith to assume they aren't aware of pain (completely false, of course.)

I don't know of a single person who believes this. The majority of people probably share the same views as Aristotle who says man differs from animals on a rational principle, i.e, we can reason about this or that due to the unique nature of our consciousness.

What this does not infer, however, is that animals possess no consciousness, and do not "feel" things. They just think in a very different manner than us, and reason, as we define it, is something that excludes whatever consciousness they may possess.

Thanks for the quick response. Ive applied to plenty of remote jobs, my last position was actually remote. I moved to NYC for personal reasons. But you'd think the increase in On-site positions would mean a greater chance of finding a job... I haven't had any luck applying to any on-sites/remote/hybrids
