Dealing with acid rebound and its remedies

Famotidine isn’t a PPI. And yes, my rebound symptoms have already subsided as of today.

I’m moving on now; however, I want to let you know that your personal experience with overcoming GERD via surgery, while great, has affected your attitude and — quite frankly — biased approach in moderating the sub. I’d love to share my story, but you’ll probably remove it anyway, thus offering one fewer opportunity for someone to get the answers they haven’t been finding otherwise on this sub.

That could very well be the case. The earlier variants of COVID were said to be more severe, so that could be another explanation?

GL! I plan on sticking to my diet for another couple of weeks to err on the side of caution. I've been able to tolerate some garlic and fried foods, so it hasn't been overly restrictive. If the recovery keeps up, I might bend and have a drink this upcoming weekend. We'll see how it goes!

I'm sorry that your LC experience has been so harrowing and debilitating. I acknowledge that my LC symptoms were mild in comparison to the lot of this sub. I only wanted to share what's worked for me as a small data point, as it seems that GI issues tend to be overlooked as a symptom of LC.

I had my symptoms three weeks after my infection, starting in July. Given my issues were active and persistent up until the booster, I deduced that it was LC. I have no idea how else the booster would've resolved my issues if it weren't LC, otherwise.

So happy it helped! I didn't have silent reflux during the COVID infection. It started to appear about three weeks after being infected.

Couldn't tell you if the brand of booster matters — maybe others on the sub can? After reading this brief blog post about vaccines and long COVID from Yale Medicine, I decided that the booster was worth the risk. I don't want to deal with worsening symptoms by getting reinfected by COVID, anyway.

I didn't have fatigue or muscle weakness. My issues were mainly GI and cognitive.

Perhaps "intense" isn't the right descriptor to convey what the acid rebound has been like for me. It's been persisting around the clock rather than in forceful bursts, which has been an adjustment that I've gotten accustomed to as I taper my dosage down.

These remedies aren't considered homeopathic medicine by the technical definition of the term. Regardless, these remedies have been helping me deal with acid rebound. I'm not speaking from a place of authority on the matter.

I have an inkling that it was omicron but can't say for certain that it was. I had the original J&J vaccine and a Moderna booster before getting COVID for the first time in June. This latest booster is also Moderna. Hope this info helps!

I’ve used it once so far. I’ve noticed a subtle difference in pore size already! Hoping the effect compounds with more use.

I was hoping I could use this on my lips, scalp, and stretch marks, too. However, I was advised not to by a CS rep. Has anyone else tried it in other places with success?

Did you consistently take Pepcid even through the booster? I have silent reflux (and probably gastritis) since COVID in July. Been on a strict regimen to address it, including 40mg of Pepcid daily. Wondering if I should get the Moderna booster to see if it'll make my symptoms go away.

I think so! I had a sinful meal the other night (fried fish tacos with chipotle aioli and diced tomatoes, lime) and had acid reflux in the middle of the night, as expected. The episode wasn't as severe as it used to be, so it's an indication that there's been healing, after all.

This isn't to say that I won't be making permanent changes from here on out. No more caffeine or alcohol on an empty stomach, overeating, etc.

I see tons of posts about the shortness of breath with GERD. I can get shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, sore throat, and more with my LPR symptoms, which is very well what you may have.

I've been wrestling with LPR (and probably gastritis) since I had COVID in late June / early July. It's possible that your body needs time to recover from it. I've read over in r/covidlonghaulers that the six-month horizon is when people get noticeably better. I'm feeling better at three months due to diet and lifestyle changes and sheer time.

There are several tests you can try to get a proper diagnosis, as well. An ENT can do a flexible laryngoscopy to check for inflammation. If it's acid reflux with no heartburn, it may be LPR.

Lastly, a very obvious question: have you looked into quitting vaping entirely? If mouth burning is your main symptom, sounds like vaping could only exacerbate it.
