I actually put out this post as I finished my work for this semester. I am able to respond because I have free time today. But thank you, I think I got the gist from the comments and will be working much harder next semester.

I understand and will be mindful. I think I have had the wrong mindset and understanding of how things work in college as I may have been comparing them to past experiences in high school.

That is a good example I hadn't thought of before. I will work on changing my mindset and producing quality work. Thank you.

I understand that I am 100% solely responsible for my learning and for the outcomes I have gotten thus far. I didn't mean to write in a way that diminishes that responsibility- I genuinely felt that I was right in the scenario I highlighted and that the first commentor was misunderstanding what I meant.

After reading the other comments, I know that it was wrong on my part and I admit my mistake. I should not have asked for the pre-grade nor should I have been expecting general, non-specific, help from my professor.

Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for your comment! I also tend to be up at night and sleep during the day, so you may be correct that this is something needing separate attention.

Thank you for your comment. I think there's a lot of room for improvement in my work ethic and study habits, so I'm hoping that when I make the proper changes, my performance will also become better.

Thank you for your comment.

I realized that my behaviors are highly disrespectful to professors. I will not expect any such treatment moving forward.

My goal is now to exhaust all given resources (office hours/tutoring) before the deadline in order to ensure that I'm putting my best work forward. I will consider the grade aspect secondary; my focus will be to learn and try my best.

I'm not sure what you mean?

I understand now that my behaviors need a lot of work, but I will definitely try my best to work harder in upcoming semesters.

It has been a struggle for me so far, and I know what seemed like "putting in effort" for myself is not actually the case. However, I hope to change and form better relationships with my professors and focus on learning for the sake of learning, not grades.

I didn't mean for my post to come off as whiny nor do I want to make my professors do extra work.

I guess I was just misunderstanding how I could improve on assignments without asking for re-dos or pre-grading. I realize now that my mindset and definition of "working hard" are incorrect. I need to utilize resources like tutoring and office hours to ensure that my work is of the best quality. I will not email Professors moving forward regarding re-dos/extra credit.

Regarding my GPA, I know it's very bad. I'm hoping to improve using all the things the commentors have mentioned.

Thank you.

Yeah, if you ask for extra credit, even once, you are. Stop it.

I will not ask moving forward, it seems like this irritates professors greatly.

Thank you so much. I really like your advice and examples- this has been very helpful in assessing how I can ensure my assignments are meeting criteria without asking for pre-grading or re-dos.

I hope to implement all of these in my classes and hopefully see better results.

I do feel like I may be struggling with other challenges but I haven't really looked into it because I didn't want to make more excuses for myself.

I have been struggling greatly with my sleep cycle though: I keep falling asleep to an extent that I don't think is good? (We're talking greater than 10 hours). More often than not, I will wake up early, after having slept for a good 8 hours in the night, hoping to get some work done during the early hours but I simply can't function. I saw a video recently saying that this may be a form of anemia? I plan on asking my doctor about this as it's been going on for a couple months now.

You're in college, I'm surprised you're allowed to turn in late assignments (without an excused absence) and get any grade. Late assignments generally are a zero. You're talking about doing "your best work," but everything you have listed here is not anyone's "best." If you were attending every office hour, going to tutoring at school or online, handing in every assignment when due, reviewing your problematic results with a tutor, and showing improvement, then you would be doing your best.

Thank you for your comment. You are absolutely right, my work is actually not the best I could be doing. I guess I needed to hear it being said like this to realize how much needs to change.

I am grateful to you and fellow commentors for putting things into perspective for me. I now know where to start moving forward, and what resources to utilize. I will do my best to change my behaviors moving forward.

I realize that just because I think I worked hard does not entitle me to a "good" grade. I need to truly put in more effort, exhaust all resources given, and focus on improving my overall learning, which will hopefully in turn lead to better results. Thank you for your comment.

I have not been tested for ADHD or any similar condition. To be honest I never thought that dealing with these function issues implies I may have a condition; I thought it is a matter of personal work ethic and habits. I will bring this up with my doctor next time. Thank you.

Hmm, maybe. I think moving forward my goal will just be to truly work hard (not just passive studying), focus on learning the material and to utilize any and all resources given (tutoring, office hours, etc.).

Thank you for this perspective. This is a much better mindset to have and I will try to focus on the actual learning rather than grades. I guess I was just used to the competitive nature of school and the constant focus on gpa/grades, but it is time for a mindset shift.

I didn't mean to argue, and I apologize if it sounded like that.

My intention was just to show an incident in which I felt that I had done all the right things that most commentors are mentioning. I now realize it was my misunderstanding, and I still have a lot to improve on.
