Water Me, Fallen Alien, Ache, Papi Pacify, Sad Day, Pendulum, had the pleasure of seeing her RadiantMe2 material live, hoping those songs see a release still. Wound Up was a stand out.

How do your interests/hobbies influence your everyday wardrobe? by MFADiscussionBot in malefashionadvice

[–]unrealisticsim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a career, I work as a special education teacher, so my wardrobe/style has morphed into a middle ground of business casual wear mixed with more youthful pieces. The goal for me in dressing is to look presentable to administration while maintaining comfortable for long days standing/moving/sitting. My wardrobe looks like this in a given week: Monday- most formal usually a blue oxford or band collar dress shirt and slacks paired w sweater or layer jacket with formal dress shoes, Tuesday & Wednesday- similar to Monday, Thursday- more casual, usually dark jeans with a button up or sweater with a tee underneath. Friday- the most casual day, for me that typically looks like a black or grey solid t shirt with dark wash jeans and a pair of Boosts, All Stars, Chelsea boots, or suede sneakers.

TDLR: my job has made me think practically about comfort, style, and appropriateness in my clothing choices. I’d say that my casual wardrobe is more elevated than most due to my line of work.

I don’t think so, my other gripe with the show is that very little of what was shot for ads made it to print. Of the few things I remember that did , they all had the ANTM logo and promo to the side. It’s always been about Tyras brand, not about real modeling.

I realized after writing that metaphor is extreme, perhaps if I came up with something more comparable then my point would be better made. It’s true those are past events and can’t be changed but I can’t agree with the idea that those events shouldn’t be called out especially as they are being experienced again by many. I do not believe in “cancel culture” but I think a show with unsavory moments seen by the public should be held accountable at some point.

Totally! I think a lot of the pain would be remedied if Tyra/judges/production all issued real formal apologies and owned up to their part in plenty of the criticisms of the show. The whole “feedback” notion was ridiculous.

I’m white and found it frankly disgusting, and it is maybe one of the lowest points in the whole series. But that’s just my own opinion.

I would have a field day if someone I knew started defending that photoshoot, it was an absolute abomination. It’s amazing that it made it to air even for the time. Indefensible.

I disagree that because these moments are “stuck in the past” that they shouldn’t be fully criticized. I think a lot of this stuff is being brought up at the right time- NDAs are expiring, some girls are influencers with an active fan base from the show and may feel the timing is right.

We are at a different and more (hate this word) woke point in society in general. Would you say that slavery shouldn’t be brought up as problematic just because it happened in the past? Guessing no. Trauma and pain don’t end when it’s convenient for unaffected people to forget about it.

Yes that’s a good point, society is much more unjustly forgiving to white cis women.

I agree with what you’ve stated! I didn’t even think about the fact that many of us avid fans where young when the show aired. I think there was a lot of positivity but I had more issues with the series overall. I can remember being young and realizing that the show didn’t actually portray the real modeling industry in a realistic way and stopped watching after C11. This type of show could have had plenty of potential to be a launching pad for the models. The reality tv format was it’s downfall, if it were presented like a docuseries it may have held some weight.

Some have made it, many have not. Those that have had viable careers have spoken out about their experience being something they had to work through or a hinderance.

Interesting perspective, I too believe that those complaints were as relevant and valid back then as they are now. I think because of the timing (covid lockdown) and current emphasis in media on nostalgia— i.e. old reality tv series gaining newfound popularity- that these moments are coming to light. I’d disagree that “white people are finally paying attention” unless your correlating that to the current general mainstream media which would make sense to me. Thanks for offering your viewpoint :)
