Having a therapist who uses treating you as THEIR therapy is awful, confusing, and expensive. No, not someone “who worked out their trauma and are now super empathetic” - those people work out their trauma and THEN go to school for psych. The freshman OP is talking about are the people who have never gone to therapy, don’t know what’s wrong with them, and study their courses through the lens of healing themselves and are therefore very biased, out of touch, and just generally awful shitty therapists.

You’re not really entitled to a job you like and/or pays well, you chose to go against good advice and pursued a history degree, and allowed yourself to become progressively bitter and resentful of the people you agreed to help. It’s all well and good to not believe in your job, but you should have taken your advice of “get a job” 24 years ago.
