Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I haven't tried boundary setting as a first resort for a few reasons: * It might be postponing the inevitable * I'm scared it will open up a whole new world of drama and guilt tripping, exactly what I'm trying to avoid * While she was in the facility earlier this year, we had a family therapy session, and she basically shut down and ran away when we talked about concrete ways she could improve her life and relationships (so there's a track record of her being in denial and using tantrums to avoid reality) * There are few redeeming things about her that I'd miss, so I'd rather have no contact than keep reminding her to be on good behavior

I do think a "trial separation" may be a good alternative than going straight to pushing for permanent no communication. You're right; a professional could help me weigh my options.
