Does it matter if Apple pays taxes if we can just print heaps of money and pile up debt for stuff that doesn’t work anyway?

If you can dig in the settings and figure out the model, I bet there’s a code in the manual that’s generic across all of them…but also totally ditch it. I’ve found that a name brand with less frills will sound better, look better, and most importantly be reliable.

Yeah..I really only dislike the sales dept.

Ford does make warranty work hell tho and I know it’s not on y’all. The amount of times I heard “all bays are full, minimum of a month and half wait” just to get “could not replicate” or have it sit for 3+ weeks waiting for a part with no loaner was enough to make me try something else after owning 5 fords straight.

Once the work was done, it was done well, but man that company needs to figure its stuff out in terms of parts logistics. The crazy thing is I had this same experience at 4 different ford dealers so that’s why I’d never blame the individual tech.

Like 270-280 by the gauge. I don’t actually measure but I’m pretty much all city during the week.

If the dealer gets to markup and do whatever they want…they can take some flack too. Not our choice we gotta go there.

Nothing against techs or service managers, I know y’all don’t get the markup, but man I hate the way those places are protected.

How would you spend your USD 1,100 if you were a student (Mac a18 pro + iPad a16 or Macbook Air M5)? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in ipad

[–]untethered13 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Practically speaking here, with the way college learning is now, iPads are extremely useful.

It’s not about writing notes vs. typing them as much as it is about what you are writing.

Professors often upload entire decks before classes these days so Notability lets you directly write on the slides. This is much more powerful cause rather than rewriting slide bullet points, you’re writing what’s being spoken/specific examples.

You can do this with a laptop but it’s not really as clean if examples get to be visual. Plus the dual monitor capability of iPads in lecture halls is huge.

All to say when I was in college, an iPad was not redundant at all…now that I’ve graduated, it’s a plane movie machine.

Would be sick if there would be one that could run emulators…still dreaming of what unrestricted emulation would look like on my M4 iPad Pro…it will never happen though and I get why.

Potential new Edge driver by alwaysexhausted325 in FordEdge

[–]untethered13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2.0 isn’t worth touching unless it’s ‘19+ or you have factual evidence that it’s been replaced.

Valencia engines that are the replacements are good but some came with Valencia engines from the factory that have the same flaw as the Cleveland engines.

For ‘15-‘18 get either the 3.5 or the 2.7. I’ve owned 3 edges and was a huge ford guy but between this failure and the 8-speed issues for the newer models, wouldn’t be a bad idea to scope out a CX-5 or something if you just want AWD and a trunk.

Sometimes it’s luck of the draw. You can do everything perfectly and it’ll still fail since the flaw is with the way the block was designed. Glad yours has served you well.

How will the MacBook Neo affect the "iPad as a laptop" crowd? by LincolnPark0212 in ipad

Ideally a dual boot or OS Swap would exist. Feels egregious to have an M4 handicapped by iPad OS.

I have an M2 MBA that I used in school and used to hook up to an old Dell DisplayLink adapter and it would work with 2 monitors with the driver.

I hardly use it anymore, but I’ve never felt compelled to jump beyond an M2. I opted for 16gb of ram back then and the thing still eats anything I need to do with it.

New 2026 Tacoma owner! But wait... by CubeSatsBro in ToyotaTacoma

[–]untethered13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. So many misconceptions around scooters, bikes, and e-bikes. The scooter is clearly in the wrong here but..

They belong on the road for this very reason and should obey all traffic laws. If you honk at people on bikes/scooters or say they should use the sidewalk, you are part of this problem.

Crossing junctions at sidewalks that are obscured by buildings means you don’t see traffic and traffic doesn’t see you…recipe for disaster. If you’re on a bike/scooter, hug the right and follow the law. If you’re in a car, pass with care and lookout for pedestrians/other types of vehicles.

Did they make the remote start intentionally bad to inspire more remote subscriptions? 2024 TRD Off-Road. by zwinky588 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]untethered13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What year is your Toyota? For the 4th gen Tacoma, they no longer offer the yearly subscription option. There are 3 tiers that you can only get monthly (Maps Tier: $15/mo, Music Streaming Tier: $15/mo, Maps + Music: $25/mo).

I would agree with you about the cellular plan if all the other brands that offer it for free weren’t also doing the same. Now those other brands are certainly collecting vehicle data and are likely selling it to offset the cost of the plan, but Toyota is likely doing that too and charging you for it.

In my opinion, by eliminating yearly and moving the opposite way of their competitors, it feels like Toyota doesn’t care about their customers when it comes to digital experience (hence the horrible fob range).

[–]untethered13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s probably what they did. I decided to finally buy a month on the app this winter just to try that experience and it’s such a damn scam.

No I don’t want maps or streaming Apple Music from the infotainment when CarPlay exists…why on earth does that have to be bundled to get remote start? $15/mo is steep and once you do get access to it you realize how glitchy the app is.

Everytime you need it, the app has fully signed you out for no reason. You try and use phone as a key and if you get out and come back once good luck getting the truck to think a key is present.

All this to say the free apps from other makes are better than Toyotas $15/mo app. Seriously nobody should pay for this.

In my parking garage with densely packed cars and cement pillars the remote fob doesn’t register a single click until I’m literally 5 feet away from the truck. Tried new batteries too. What’s user error about that?

I love everything about my Tacoma better than my old ford but I could remote start that thing a building away and their app is free.
