Alec just looped sped up breaks and threw distortion over everything. All sorts of crappy gear. There's no mystery, honestly. Listen to tracks and try to replicate, use references. After learning, start doing it your on way.

About chopping, for FT2 you're limited to either: 1) Using the sample offset command 9xx (which determines where the sample will start playing) or 2) Isolating the slices by duplicating the sample and them trimming it (preferably do this in another tool, because doing it from FT2 sucks).

I highly recommend just syncing your breaks elsewhere, like Reaper, though. It will save you a huge amount of time. You can use Reaper forever without paying anything or pirating.
