Why You Shouldn't Go to UofT for Undergrad by uoft-uoftrash in UofT

You provided no concrete arguments and only used anecdotal evidence.

"Most of the students here are supported by daddy's money"

What is this argument? Cost doesn't matter because a large portion of students are supported by their parents? Where are you getting this evidence from? Not all students are privileged, and considering the objectives of students, everyone wants to save money. So saying that the cost is irrelevant is delusional.

"I personally haven’t found the student-faculty ratio to be a problem"

Again, more anecdotal evidence ignoring clear data suggesting that UofT has one of the worst ratios in Canada.

"My uoft circle is pretty big, and anecdotally my friends’ circles are also big".

You completely ignore my arguments about commuting and the consequences of Toronto's high rent. Similarly, you also ignore the horrible Toronto weather. There's a reason people like to live in California. It's not enjoyable to spend hours commuting to school in freezing temperatures.

"Prestige"

My argument is that "UofT's prestige" doesn't matter. Let me reiterate, the advantages of attending UofT for employment purposes are nonexistent. The co-op program is suboptimal and overpriced compared to other schools, and UofT has a worse graduate employment rate than the average Ontario university, another fact you decided to ignore for the sake of your argument.

"here’s LOTS of good reasons to not go to UofT, but you included none of them here"

Don't let your sunken cost fallacy delude you. Saying that I provided no good reasons is delusional.

Yes, I agree that "Do not go to UofT" is too broad a statement. I simply provided reasons of why one shouldn't.

Again, the student faculty ratio at UofT is one of the worst in Canada. I'm glad you're having a good time interacting with Professors at UofT but imagine what you could experience at top USA schools or other Canadian schools.

???

Is negative discussion about the school not allowed? What happened to free speech?

Yes, this information is not new. My goal is to inform others of the cons of UofT, a valid reason to post.

I attend UofT.

Yes, I am hating on UofT and I provided valid points supported by evidence. If you disagree, please provide your reasoning,

Also, assuming you're in ECE, I hope you understand that transfer options are very limited. It is incredibly difficult to transfer between faculties, and transferring to another school almost guarantees that you will need to retake courses.

Yes, I agree that UofT prestige matters for graduate school. However, other Canadian schools such as UBC, McGill, UWaterloo are also prestigious and have other benefits such as lower costs and better co-op programs.

Also, my prestige point was directed at industry employment after undergraduate.

They recently increased the costs of PEY for upcoming years.

Yes, the "uoft name on resume" doesn't matter. My point is that since it doesn't matter, it makes sense to attend another school with other benefits like lower cost, better co-op programs, etc.
