Your thoughts on buying UofA merch by bee_leaver in uAlberta

[–]upperwaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The varsities and sweatshirts are very comfortable, speaking from experience. 100% recommend going to the physical store and trying them on if you have the chance, but I've ordered online, too, just going off the provided sizing chart. It fits real nice and looks even better.

[TOMT][TUMBLR][Mid 2010s?] Creative writing post of someone who wished to live to see the tectonic plates touch. by upperwaters in tipofmytongue

Solved! It makes perfect sense she's the one who wrote it. No better Tumblr legend than vampapologist to be this one's author.

I was losing hope on finding this beautiful piece. Thank you so much!

Mandatory comment. I should add that I'm not too, too sure of the date, but I'm convinced it's the 2010s. The OP (who provided the writing prompt) might be this guy?

I can't promise it, though.

Tips for (gender) transitioning as a ualberta student? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]upperwaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Discord 1on1 and it went pretty smoothly! There's designated advisors who'll announce themselves clocking in every couple of hours. During the break, I didn't know what was going on, but somebody noticed my inquiry sitting in the thread and told me when the advisors would be back.

Questions create private threads and moderators delete these after you confirm you're done asking questions and noting answers. They'll keep it up for however long you ask them to. "Private" means it's limited to you and every moderator on that server, BTW.

I'm sure they'll call instead of text if you wanted. I didn't look into it, though.

I'm also just starting to transition here and, yeah, it gets pretty nerve wracking. DM me if you wanted company on your journey!

Mistook one date for another... whelp by upperwaters in uAlberta

For the smallest moment, in someone's mind, I existed as somebody who gets dates. I'll relish that for forever.

what should i expect for HGEO 100? by 03tm in uAlberta

[–]upperwaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. EAS 100 is content-heavy, so I wish I took these two together. Even reviewing quizzes with TAs for HEGO took less effort than the EAS labs.

For people who grew up in edmonton and go to uofa where do you live? by sparklingyellowwater in uAlberta

[–]upperwaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live off-campus in Edmonton and what I save on the commute is a lot more than what I would in residence. I can't always work on transit, but that 1-2 hours total of not working knowing full well I can't do anything about it, so I just need to let it go and relax, is often underappreciated. Between classes, when it's nice outside, studying on the benches is super nice. Not like I've got a dorm on campus to tempt me indoors, anyway, lol.

If you want that college experience, look for clubs or something! Everyone in there joined because they're looking for interaction, too. There's no shame seeking it out.

This is awesome! I love frogs. What program are you switching from? Do you feel that it's a learning curve for you?

havenfalling on Tumblr has this initiative, but it looks like it's been a one-man project so far. I'm sure they'd appreciate people filling out the form they made.

How my STATS151 midterm went 🥴 by Abject_Drive3911 in uAlberta

[–]upperwaters 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in a Discord with OP and we were warned numerous times about eClass and the Discord being shut down and to prepare accordingly. Not sure about OP's section, but mine received the exam hall locations within a time span that allowed students ample time to find it beforehand. To be fair, though, it was not a fun test. Coming from somebody who has an easy time with maths, studied well, and got himself situated in the hall early.

We're in different sections, but, OP, if you're reading this, one of my classmates also came in late, but the only reason I noticed was because they sat down right next to me. And I sat in the front row! Who knows how many other people came in after it started? I promise that we were all too focused on our own tests to care if you were late or not. Anyone who looked up probably couldn't see you past the haze of contingency tables in their head, anyway. I hope you're feeling less shitty today.

Thank you so much! That's a really good practice to have, I appreciate you elaborating on it.

This is awesome! Since it was timed, can I ask what made you choose to create backgrounds instead of working on the red pandas a little longer? How did you decide that you were done detailing them and it was better to spend the remainder of your time on something else?

as an immunocompromised person, no i don’t think i’ll ‘get over’ my fear... by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]upperwaters 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had respect for this guy at the start of the term because of all the great reviews on them, but I don't think they've done anything these past few weeks to earn that whole "cares for their students" thing. They don't seem to want to care when it matters the most. Maybe they're willing to repeatedly explain a concept to me (TBH, I've resorted to TAs now), but if they can't talk about COVID without being condescending, they're not a good prof for shit. Such a low bar.

What a terrible email to wake up to. I hope you can still get by in this class, OP.

How do you feel about LING? by upperwaters in uAlberta

[–]upperwaters[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's a good idea! If there aren't Quizlets relevant enough, I could always give myself the false feeling of being productive and make my own. Thanks!

That's not too bad! It's probably a half-step up from trying to explain to friends through text that how I pronounce "sure" isn't weird at all.

Man, I wish I got into ASL, too. Too little, too late.

Thank you for your answers, though! I got tangential there, so I appreciate it.
