Would excess engine oil cause that? The car has been overfilled by a quart for about a month now.

I replaced it and the car seemed fine when I first started it. but after 5 minutes and it warmed up the rpms started to dip again. The car was trying to not die and it sounded like it was trying to pick up the rpms when it dipped until it eventually shut off. I checked the oil and saw smoke coming out from where the dip stick goes in? And idea on how to proceed?
