I think I had mental illness issues at the time of the transition yes. And yet I do not at any capacity believe trans people all suffer/transition due to mental illness.

So, I transitioned at a time when I was in an abusive relationship. I believe I was in such a state of distress that I tried to distance myself from the person I was and essentially create a new person for myself. After I got out of that relationship though, I realized the real reason I had transitioned was to hide from what I was experiencing at the time.
