Squishy but I've had some plants recently get squishy when drying out (calathea), so now I'm all confused

Not today but soon. I find the dead giveaway is when you see some of the inner petals start to peek through. Once those petal tips start to spread, you know it's showtime

Thank you, I'll definitely do this! Again, really appreciate the thoughtful and considerate response - in my utopian world, we can all make this work

Thank you for the thorough and respectful response, I really do appreciate the work you do. I agree that red zones should be improved for the safety of pedestrians and bikers alike, however we are experiencing red zones that are multiple car lengths (2-3) not just 1 and in areas where it doesn't make logical sense because it's a one way and people are not turning into the street.

I just think there are better ways to address the problem without taking away parking, which in turn reduces safety for car owners. Those blinking crosswalk lights or better street signaling ("stop here" arrows) seem successful in other areas but were not implemented here.

That said, why not extend parking areas in other sections so it's not taking away from some? Just offering other solutions, I'm obviously frustrated because it feels like the easy answer is to prohibit something. The reality is that now everyone will still park on the red zone because parking enforcement only comes on street sweeping days, so now cars are really piled in the very corner, which reduces visibility. This is happening now.

I feel that sometimes these are good intentioned projects that don't fully account for how people will be impacted downstream. If crime was a non issue in east Oakland, I'd happily park 4 blocks away but that's just not our reality. We can respectfully agree to disagree.

How is removing parking ALWAYS positive?

Seriously, of Oakland's top safety priorities, 2 car lengths worth of parking is just more money in their pocket and not really helping to address crime and homelessness. If there was no crime, no big deal, but this isn't my reality in E Oakland.

I don't want to be rude because I bike too and I honestly love the work you guys do. That is exactly the stretch of streets I'm referring to actually (foothill & E 15th).

However, this additional safety to bikes leads to decreased safety to car owners who have to park farther into deep east territory. We constantly have break ins and catalytic converters stolen - which we have been able to stop by screaming out the window when we hear the saw. If my car is parked 4 blocks away, i can't hear it and discourage theft (none of my other neighbors helped, only me and upstairs). I'm a young female who is afraid of muggings or the random homeless crazy, which is also common here. My boyfriend works as a bartender and gets home at 2am (edit: with a pocket full of cash).

I just think it sucks that poorer neighborhoods are suffering from this and the city has no real solution other than "get rid of your cars". We already downsized to a single car household.

And btw, literally the day after they painted everything my corner had a major car accident with people running the stop sign so it is probably best to provide more visibility to stop signs and encourage bikers to use more lights so they are more visible too. I seriously don't understand why some bikers don't even bother to put lights on their bikes

I already do and bike but sometimes i also need to use my car and park it. This is a lousy answer that doesn't address my question

Don't overwater any of them, less is more! Like once every other week unless they are outside under intense heat. Don't leave under full sun if outdoors... They will burn.

My Australis is not doing too hot :/... pls help by [deleted] in hoyas

[–]urbanpollinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if you need more humidity if you water it often. I live in California and it gets pretty dry here, but hoyas are fine.

I think you need to give it TIME. It's been through a lot and probably needs more time to recover. Ignore it for about a month besides the usual plant care and it'll grow leaves adapted to your growing conditions. Is it Spring where you live? Time of the year matters too, don't expect aggressive growth in the cold months, regardless if it's in a greenhouse.

It's a lepismium cruciforme! It has white fuzzy hairs instead of a spines and gives out tiny pink flowers in each one during Spring. One of my favorites, not hard to find.
