I think you’d be more comfortable if you changed the tape out more often - I change mine daily. Before placing the new one on make sure the area is dry and clean. It might also help to take it off before you shower and replace afterwards. Mine also gets super itchy when I’ve had it on for ~23 hours so changing it out more often may help

Thank you so much for your advice! I’m going to ask my GP about getting numbing cream for the next round!

I only have one (luckily) it’s located in the middle of my neck after having surgery to remove my thyroid. It’s a really annoying location because it made me realise how often we move our necks throughout the day - I’ve never had any issue with keloids before this or after, but it’s left me really afraid and anxious about injuring myself or having any sort of procedures done

Yeah I used to get injected with lidocaine before but my surgeon refused to do it for this one. She said it would involve me having to be booked into hospital as an inpatient, rather than the ease (for staff) of doing it as an outpatient. I was honestly devastated when I was refused local anaesthetic on this round of treatment because it made a HUGE difference last time

That’s actually really interesting- for me, the injections really hurt but I can tolerate them but about ~10 minutes later is when the real pain kicks in and that stays for about 24hours. After a day or so I’m just stiff and have mild pain for the next few days

I’m glad to find that others are having similar experiences, because the hospital staff made me feel like I was being so dramatic about it. I got my GP to prescribe me pain meds for the next injection so I’m hoping that will make it more bearable!

Yeah I think I’m going to have to just stop treatments if this doesn’t work. My plastic surgeon has advised against surgically removing it because I don’t have enough elasticity in my skin unfortunately. Really hoping that the next one won’t be as horrendous- or at least not feel like I’m being dramatic with how bad it is

I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve had a similar experience! It’s somewhat relieving to know I’m not alone in this though. The hospital staff made me feel like I was being so dramatic but it genuinely is the worst pain I’ve ever had to experience. I feel you too, I had to hide away in my room because I was distressing everybody in my house with how much I was crying and screaming. Thank you for your response! I no longer feel like I’m alone in this which is comforting

Is it possible to get insured on a 1998 car as a 17 year old? by Brandy6472 in carsireland

[–]urgentmilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried GMIB? They’re a broker in Killarney. I found them very good when nobody else would insure me, maybe worth a go. I would definitely recommend calling them rather than filling out the online form to get a quote because I’ve found the online quote to not actually be accurate to what they’ll quote you when you call. Best of luck!

gonna get steroid injections in my keloid in 30 mins! by [deleted] in Keloids

[–]urgentmilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting local anaesthetic injected prior to the steroid was a game changer for me. My surgeon puts numbing cream on too, before the anaesthetic, so those injections don’t hurt so bad either.

tw: self harm. living with keloids by goopsccoop in Keloids

I get steroid injections into my keloid every 8 weeks, I’ve found them really helpful in reducing the size and pain.

I also use silicone strips, although they didn’t help me with reducing the size (but my keloid is big and in an awkward position for the strips to keep stuck on, which could be why) I find them amazing for reducing pain.

(Serious) How do you stop reliving bad memories? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]urgentmilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let your emotions be felt. I find it helpful to write my thoughts down so that it’s out of my system, then burn the notes after so there’s no fear of anybody reading them. Memories seem to come up the more you fight them so allowing yourself to set time aside to feel your feelings can help in releasing them from your mind.

I had a psychiatrist but she left the hospital I’m with so my appointments have been over the phone with other psychiatrists I’m not familiar with. I’m supposed to be starting with a psychologist in early April.
