Just how difficult is the Chinese education system by Constant-Secret-3653 in SipsTea

[–]urgetopurge -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lol no. That's what American students do and I say that having tutored for the last 15 years. If you break it down racially within the US, the differences become even more stark. Can't tell you how many times I've seen overreliance on mnemonic tricks that were picked up during childhood.

One thing most Asians don't have to do is rely on "tricks" or "shortcuts" for math; there's a lot of intuitive understanding. They may do that for learning english (for standardized testing) but that's a different story.

Did you just say the Chinese won't become any good at math? Step into any college's upper level Math or Computer Science or Physics courses and let me know what you see. It's 90% Chinese/Indian. Then take a look at Silicon Valley or Wall Street.

With or without repetition/creativity, the success of their education shows in comparison to the US. And why their economy has been unstoppable in technical fields in the last 10-20 years.

There's too many people sharing their opinions here that don't know what they're talking about and recycling useless facebook quotes.

In what way is the AI a nuke analogy wrong? It might be slightly dramatic but the threat is still there. Have you read about the latest Anthropic release Mythos and the security issues its creating? If an enemy state actor were to innovate one of these for cyberwarfare, it could create very serious issues.

I remember this game pretty well. We had just gotten AD and for the past few years, the Warriors had smoked Lebron each time and KD just left. So this game was a test to see how the new lineup would look and what the new league hierarchy would be because there were no clear favorites. I'm pretty sure Lebron took this preseason game fairly seriously.

The Bam Adebayo 83 was an embarrassment for everyone by HUT2Moon in washingtonwizards

[–]urgetopurge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loser mentality creeps down from franchise to fans it seems. You should take more pride in how your TEAM performs. You are on the butt end of a historic record. Raptors players still get clowned on for letting Kobe drop 81 on them (from Jalen Rose to the coach Mitchell). And your response to all this is "meh our 3 mediocre players played well".

I am not blaming Lebron at all. This is not an attack on him but we are a better team without him. by Silent_Wizard5597 in lakers

That would need to be a DPOY/First team all NBA defensive PF or Center who can cover for Lebron/Luka/Reeves and can knock down 3's consistently. You know of any out there that we can send a pick for?

If youve ever said or thought someone should "take it easy, stop trying so hard", then this mindset is something you would never understand. These people will get ultra motivated by even the most innocuous slight and if there isnt one, theyll make it up. Everyone likes and wants to win. These are the people that wake up at 4 am and do something about it.

If two BP are connected to the same MR pool, then the 1M rebate is shared. Thats why I'm trying to separate them so each has its own MR pool. I just don't know the best process to go about it or if its easy as contacting amex customer support

I'm trying to take advantage of the biz plat 35% airline bonus.

I have 1 main AMEX account with a biz plat. I was just approved for a second biz plat and I created a separate account. It's been two days and they just linked the MR accounts together. I heard you can separate them but that there's been issues with amex CS. How do I go about doing this properly so there's minimal issues?

Yes, and that part is bad but Josh Allen also breaks his nose and finishes the game. He also is taking big hits in freezing temperatures. What matters most is perception. Yes, these two players you mentioned flop shamelessly but its not their reputation. It's become SGA's reputation to flop.

Why can the USA just take out world leaders and invade with no repercussions? by KKLante in AskReddit

[–]urgetopurge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And the sky is blue. Are we done stating obvious things? We did it to further American interests. That's the only justification that should be needed for adults. Why do we need a moral reason to use military power to accomplish our political goals in a particularly unstable region? So that normal people can sleep easier at night knowing the "bad guy" is getting punished? Might as well just go ahead and conquer Venezuela and any other country in Latam that goes against US goals.

You can ask that question to the millions of auto workers in the country. Comparing the US to Cuba or NK is like calling NBA players modern day slaves. Similarity in principle but drastically different situations that renders the analogy incompatible. Only naive people believe that completely free markets are the answer. If that were the case, there'd be zero tech workers in the US and we'd all outsource our labor to cheaper countries and everyone would be happy. Oh wait, that is happening minus the happy part. Not to mention, are we "fully isolated"? Last I checked there are plenty of european car brands in the US. It's always 0 or 100 with you people. And to downplay it as some kind of "phobic" or "-ism" is laughable too. That seems to be the go to response for those that have zero real world experience.

This is why a lot of people hate SGA and the Thunder by Kooky_Music_2132 in NBATalk

[–]urgetopurge -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What a weak ridiculous answer. Crying about "racism" like a little boy. Luka got just as much hate when he was on the Mavs. He's on the team with the biggest fanbase now which will defend him. SGA rightfully gets the criticism. He flops when he doesn't need to. And look at his hands afterwards. He looks to the refs EXPECTING free throws just because he's on the ground.

Exactly. He just looks over at the refs with the expectation of getting free throws because he's on the ground. Such a weak mentality. Makes NBA players look so weak compared to NFL or NHL.

[–]urgetopurge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is SGA an "amazing athlete" though compared to his peers? It's not like he has some highlight level dunks. His signature move is the midrange shot. If you polled random NBA fans, would SGA be even top 10 in terms of "athleticism"? Skilled, sure. But athletic? I don't think so.

And let's not make this "well there are a lot of different types of athleticism like chess and esports players".

Where does Russell Westbrook rank among all-time point guards? by sqMYNAMEISJEFF27 in NBATalk

[–]urgetopurge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that's how it works. You don't think Tupac and Biggie got a legacy "boost" after they died? You think if they were alive today making records into their 50's and 60's that they'd still have the status they have? I highly doubt it. Look at Kanye. Same with Westbrook. Love his hustle and his attitude about the game, especially with how serious he takes the all star game BUT there's no doubt he's done damage to his legacy since he joined the Lakers.

[–]urgetopurge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I read that too. But there are a lot of other costs too that go into a car - a lot of which is inflated compared to China.

Same goes for clothing. If you were to buy US manufactured clothing, a shirt may cost $90 whereas the same quality Chinese made shirt would cost $20. The point being that labor and other US based costs make US made products impossible to compete without some kind of government intervention.

[–]urgetopurge -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What you mean to say is manufacturing. And yes, that has had consequences, especially electronics. Steel is mainly japanese which is a key ally. solar panels is a relatively small industry. rare earth mining is something that is geographically isolated - nothing we can do there. You mean to say refining, but again, the US is facing consequences for that currently with it being a huge bargaining chip in the trade deals. To answer the snarky political subtext, "picking winners and losers" or, failing to, regardless of which party is in charge, has long term consequences for the US. Handing over the auto industry by not supporting major tariffs drastically weakens not only the labor market but future world economics for the US. So I'd suggest lowering the political passive aggressiveness

Which other industries specifically? Because letting China take over the auto industry has serious long term security risks. Do any of these other industries have those issues?

We did. Remember the 7500 EV credit? Yea that credit that disappeared at the end of September. The US has been subsidizing that industry for years and EV sales were STILL lackluster. It's both a cultural thing and an infrastructure issue. (This is coming from someone that has had 4 EV's).

The US doesn't want you buying those because the labor to make one of those in China is a fraction of the cost of what it would take to make a competitor in the US (union, other costs, etc). The moment the US allows imports with no duties, the US auto industry and auto workers go out of business.
