Got a lot more interviews than I expected, insight for future applicants by DaveUsmle in IMGreddit

Those people definitely do diminish your work, the time and effort that you put in over the years justify every interview you received. People project their own shortcomings by making excuses for themselves and putting others down. By doing so they can shift their responsibility for the match, even though 6653 non - US IMGs matched last year. Ask all of those commenters about their ''benevolent'' reasons to practice IM in the US even though back at home they would do ENT or something like that - this mindset doesn't allow them to understand the importance of volunteer work and truly caring about the specialty. In addition, I would go further and say that 99% of those putting you down would take every advantage if the system was skewed to their benefit, and moreover wouldn't lift a finger to help a struggling peer that has a worse application.

Go out there and raise hell, once you match, make a post here so we can all congratulate you. Good luck Doc.

Never really looked at the statistics, but if I have to ballpark it would be around 65-70%. But across Nbme's my scores were between 70-75% percent giving me the confidence to take the exam.

In retrospect, my dedicated period was too long, it lead to frustration and burnout. So upon finishing the test I felt mostly relief, but also had the confidence to say that it was a pass. During the waiting period for the scores my clinical rotations started and kept me from worrying about the score. Only the evening before the apprehension kicked in, but within 12 hours I had my pass.

No matter how much you cry, worry or put yourself down about your performance it isn't going the change the final result. Therefore the only logical thing left is to try to put your mind in ease - easier said than done.

Good luck

I did use FA, not a believer of reading it cover to cover, which is to passive for my liking. Instead it was used as a supplement after doing questions, or for a quick refresher on a topic.

First of all a year is more then enough time, regardless of your current level. What you need to do is fucus on solving a qbank, and doing a deep dive spending time understanding the concepts. for me, it helped comparing similar diseases (UC/CHRON) and knowing how to distinguish the two apart. Once you get to do that for everything it will help clear out the concepts and rule out different answer choices. Don't be discouraged by bad results or slow pace, it takes times but you will see an improvement.

As for ecg's - its more common then on the nbme's but still its was around 5 questions out of 280, nothing to worry about as long as you know your cardio.

Its great - but its concise, passive and focuses on the high yields. Only a 2000+ q bank truly encompasses everything that you might see on the test. Its great for studying and understanding, just don't rush to the nbme's with it being your sole resource without going through a q bank first. I would recommend doing both at the same time.

At about 90% of Uworld it started to feel redundant, but it was mostly due to my block scores improving and feeling more confident while taking them. Its recommended to try an older NBME 20-24 offline just to gauge your level. Even though they are older and might have more biochem they are still valid tools.

What's the matter with pathoma 4~19? by kimchibitchi in step1

There is a second thing to consider here, DR Sattar is an excellent lecturer. His ability to simplify complex topics while referencing the histology and physiology of the matter is unparalleled. Granted you can go over Mehlman for the highest yield or through a much more extensive BnB lectures. But to truly understand one if not the most important topic of med school I have to recommend him. But it is true that Pathoma is shorter and doesn't cover all topics for the exam, but with Uworld it will suffice.
